Slack serves Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services firms as a primary communication and collaboration platform, essential for managing complex, project-based work and distributed teams. In TrustRadius reviews, its channel-based organization is highly valued for segmenting discussions across multiple client engagements and specialized technical groups, significantly reducing internal email volume and accelerating project execution.

The platform's robust integrations with development and project management tools like Jira and GitHub are a key strength. However, reviewers note challenges with search functionality for retrieving older project documentation, a critical need for long-term engagements, cited by 21% of reviewers. Occasional performance issues and limitations in thread management also impact workflow. Despite these, Slack generally enhances collaboration and productivity for technical service delivery.

  • Centralized communication for complex, multi-client projects
  • Robust integrations with specialized technical tools like Jira and GitHub
  • Organized channels for topic-specific technical discussions and project clarity
  • Real-time audio 'Huddles' for agile problem-solving and informal consultations
  • Significant reduction in internal email volume, streamlining workflows
  • Difficulty searching and retrieving older files and messages, impacting knowledge retention
  • Challenges with thread management for sustained technical discussions
  • Occasional system performance issues affecting real-time collaboration
  • Audio and video glitches in huddles impacting ad-hoc communication
  • Potential for information loss if channels are not properly managed

Great Team Management Tool

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Slack to communicate with various departments and clients in real time. I'm able to send files up to a certain capacity. And holding huddles has made inpromotu meetings a breeze.

Pros

  • Document sharing
  • Huddles for meetings
  • Real time communication

Cons

  • I haven't been able to add apps easily
  • Add Giphy functions

Likelihood to Recommend

I think Slack works for any business or agency that deals with multiple people, and they need a real-time communication tool. The ability to work in different channels at your own pace helps one get a lot done.

Works fine with one major flaw

Rating: 5 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our remote organization uses Slack to communicate across departments. It is not our "hub" for primary messaging, but rather used for sharing quick questions or information throughout the day. We’ve organized our Slack workspace into channels based on departments and projects, but mostly we just use the direct message feature rather than channels.

Pros

  • quick messaging
  • customization options
  • sharing of files

Cons

  • Command+K is paste!!!! Match literally every other platform on the planet.
  • Messy interface

Likelihood to Recommend

Back to Command+K for pasting links – it's so ridiculous and annoying that this isn't an option or that there's no way to customize shortcuts to match the rest of the universe. This ONE feature is the reason for this rating.

Slack is Awesome

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Slack every day for collaboration with my team, my colleagues, and connecting with different parts of the organization. Slack makes it easy to connect with leadership and manager. Slack helps address issues by giving you a way to reach out to those who can help or have experience with solving specific issues. Going in channels and working with other parts of the organization helps solve problems as well.

Pros

  • Connect and communicate effectively through Slack
  • Different channels provide mediums to getting what you need accomplished
  • The integration with other sales tools make it simple to collaborate with others

Cons

  • Slack offers seamless integration and I find not too much room for Improvement

Likelihood to Recommend

Slack is well suited for quicker and on the fly communication with your teammates, colleagues, management. It can be quicker to easier find the answers you need through endless channels and company specific services built in those channels. I would say it is less appropriate when needing to reach out or make calls to customers.

Slack

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for fast communication between teams. We have chats for each project and these spaces are like a Whatsapp group with more power and business tools. Reminders, notes spaces. It's perfect so separate corporate messages that if they stay in Whatsapp there is some confusion during weekends of out of office hours.

Pros

  • Reminders
  • Channels for managing groups
  • Fast search and integrations with other apps

Cons

  • There are some UX confussions. Replies open on threads and sometimes it hard to keep up with all, but it's a matter of time and getting used to it.
  • Slack is getting bigger and new functionality is added. Sometimes we feel it should stay simple.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's like an email replacement. Information is there. Searchable. Setting up reminders inside your chat app is great. Taking time to generate processes so everybody know what's the objective of each channel is great, so then people know what to send over email or a task manager app like Asana, and what to resolve over Slack.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use it mainly to interact with colleagues but my favorite part is Slack connect to allow me to interact with my prospects and customers in a much more efficient way. It has changed the way I sell and I love it for that reason. A great platform and product.

Pros

  • slack conenct
  • interact with coworkers
  • deal rooms

Cons

  • connectivity to sfdc

Slack Real time collaboration tool for effective communication.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We primarily use Slack for internal communication within the company, including chat, calls, discussions via channels, and threads. It is very useful for communication within the team and across stakeholders and departments. We are also using Slack for external vendor communication. Business problems we are addressing: When we are working on the project with all the stakeholders for effective communication and updates, we are using Slack to be on the same channel, and all discussions are in a single place. We are also utilizing Slack for general communication, org-wide, in the dedicated channel.

Pros

  • Real time chat.
  • Organized channel with private and public option.
  • Integration with tools.

Cons

  • Search functionality to find exact message from.
  • Multiple threads can be better handled.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well-suited for internal communication within projects or across the organization, it also supports third-party communication, including chats, calls, discussions via channels, and threads. This is less appropriate for scheduling meetings with the member.

Team Tool for any organisation size.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Initially, we used Skype for communication, but it was not very professional. Then, we moved to Slack as our team grew, and there were requirements from clients to collaborate over Slack for project development and communication. As of now, we're using Slack for project collaboration and using channels specific to projects to manage the team with other tools.

Pros

  • Chat and replies on chat are something I really like. You just need to click on the reply button, and it will list all the replies, unlike others, where you will be moved to the replied comment or chat.
  • Lightweight application and available on all major operating systems.
  • Huddle is quite helpful for screen sharing, voice calls and video calls.
  • Easy to invite and collaborate with new team members and guest uses.

Cons

  • Sometimes I feel the user interface is very simple and the fonts don't go with the User Interface.

Likelihood to Recommend

There are no restrictions on the number of users that we can have. Many times we need to invite guest members to our space, who are mostly clients, and we even get invited from their side, too. So it is easy to manage all of this. I realised the applications like MS Teams are not available for all operating systems officially, but Slack is. Chat retention is also decent for our use case.

Great for any size organisation

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our team is spread across 5 countries, and Slack allows us to see who is online, message, or video chat easily. We can mark if people are working from home or in the office. Easily set the status to AFK or Lunch. It helps our team know who is available, where and when.

Pros

  • Instant notifications
  • video calls
  • set Status to Busy or away simply

Cons

  • Multiple chats are good, but Multiple videos calls would work well too

Likelihood to Recommend

I have no issues with it. I think it is good for any size organisation.

I think Slack is just a lot better than its competitors

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Slack is the backbone of our day-to-day communication and collaboration. It centralizes discussions that would otherwise be scattered across email, calls, or multiple tools, and integrates with the systems we rely on to run support, product development, and operations.

Pros

  • Asynchronous Collaboration Across Time Zones
  • Integrating Workflows from Multiple Tools
  • Real-Time Escalation & Incident Management
  • Culture & Recognition at Scale

Cons

  • Channel Sprawl
  • Search Can Be Clunky
  • File Management
  • Integration Complexity

Likelihood to Recommend

I just love it, it works super well and compared to their competitors, is just the best.

The backbone of my remote and async work

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Slack to chat, share updates, and collaborate on company processes. It’s also a great place to brainstorm ideas and get creative together remotely and asynchronously. I’ve been a big fan of Slack and have been using it for a while now. I’ve been working remotely for eight years now, and Slack has been a game-changer for communication and building a strong remote team.

Pros

  • Great integrations
  • Flexibility in channels
  • Overall adaptability to external processes - it can be customised and designed to be a hub for gathering information from various sources.

Cons

  • Perhaps building project management/tracking systems that are more visual and user-friendly. I’d love to give one a try, but I haven’t been dedicating enough time to building it out fully. I’ve tried, but I’ve always hit a snag that makes me want to explore other options.

Likelihood to Recommend

I’ve been working remotely for eight years, and Slack has been my go-to tool for much of that time. I’ve been using it since it was just a startup, and it’s really been a game changer for me. It makes communication easy and helps build strong connections across a distributed team. We use it for quick chats, sharing updates, and collaborating on company processes, and it’s also a great space for brainstorming and sparking creative ideas together. Where Slack feels less effective for me is with project management and tracking. It works well for conversations, but when projects need more visual or structured organization, I find dedicated tools are a better fit. I’ve tried exploring ways to set that up in Slack, but I usually hit limitations that push me toward other user-friendly options built for that kind of work. I’d love to have that built into Slack though, it would make it an even more powerful app for my case.
