Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In conjunction with automation, it is used to manage backup servers and continuously update contingency plans in the event of a significant network disaster, when recovery is necessary. The platform addresses the scalability issue we've had in the past. Using automation, routine tasks and workflows are completed faster to enhance operational efficiency. The scope encompasses personnel data and specific financial data.

Pros

  • Strong customer support and helpful user community.
  • Scalability
  • Extensive features for flexibility.
  • Friendly user interface.

Cons

  • Learning curve can be a challenge.
  • Cost for smaller scopes a bit high.
  • Some features paid for, not used.

Likelihood to Recommend

Smaller scopes for more specialized tasks and solutions should be extensively considered to see if a more cost-effective solution is available. We overhauled a division, and the platform allowed for a seamless transition for a large number of employees. A large amount of data protection needs across a wide range of platforms and environments were addressed and rectified.

OK product but has flaws.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my opinion and experience, the setup is very confusing. There are too many steps, locations, etc., to enter simple data such as an Azure storage account. Backup from one storage account to another is not supported. Entra ID backup does not restore the Object ID, leaving orphaned Object IDs when someone is assigned permissions to an object in Azure. Veeam performs backups, but it isn't very clear to set up and requires two virtual machines to back up Azure, versus having an online cloud platform.

Pros

  • Backup once setup is completed.

Cons

  • Provide a cloud option for cloud only organizations.
  • Backup all metadata with Entra ID so object ID can be restored.
  • Make setup and maintenance less confusing.

Likelihood to Recommend

Again, the setup is less than easy to do. There are too many areas where items need to be created or maintained. It's an issue for people who don't use Veeam on a daily basis.

Veeam Data Platform Review

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Veeam Data Platform data platform is used for back up services. It enables us to back up of critical systems and data. It has been utilized only for virtual machines but ideally we want to leverage more features to allow thorough back up capabilities. The customizable rules for back up makes automating back up jobs simple and easy to implement.

Pros

  • Back up jobs
  • Data retention
  • Automation
  • Cataloging

Cons

  • Include Machine learning capabilities
  • Faster response times
  • Updates to UI

Likelihood to Recommend

Veeam Data Platform has been great for backing up virtual machines. It can be leveraged for other systems but mainly virtual machines have been the most critical systems we used to back up. It is not appropriate for systems and platforms that are not connected, or systems that have different back up process more suitable such as cloud based back up solutions.

Veeam Backup for maximum continuity flexability

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We back up all of our servers with this product. It ensures business continuity across our organization and internal servers and systems.
We leverage application aware backups to more quickly and simply restore more common issues such as restoring Active Directory users or file security permissions.
When we need it, full virtual machine restores are quick and comprehensive.
Finally, the wide options in exporting backups to cloud repositories with immutable options ensures protection from backup-targeted threats.

Pros

  • Repository flexability
  • Backup speed with throttling options
  • Scalable

Cons

  • Interface complexity
  • Installation/standup complexity

Likelihood to Recommend

Veeam is a great tool for most companies and use-cases.
The only thing that keeps it from being a 10 is the general complexity of the product. Any business that do not have complex needs or have no concern over scalability would do better with a less feature rich and more inexpensive option.

Veeam Data Platform Backup and Recovery rocks

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We work with a large amount of data and its critical that it be backed up with a local copy as well as an offsite copy. Veeam Data Platform allows us to set retention policy’s on our backup jobs without having do much more than click a box and tell how long we want to keep the backups for. We also make use of CDP to an offsite datacenter so in the case of a disaster we can spin up the VM’s there and continue to operate.

Pros

  • CDP
  • Replication
  • Backup Copies
  • Retention

Cons

  • Easier reporting without Veeam one

Likelihood to Recommend

Veeam Data Platform is a wonder tool for all environments. From physical to virtual to NAS appliances you can backup all devices from within a single interface. Veeam Data Platform is scalable to suit large environments that have very specific needs. With the ability to replicate VM’s across the globe or to backup your data to an immutable vault for security, Veeam Data Platform provides it all.

Veeam Data Platform Backup and Replication - Go for it

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently leverage Veeam Data Platform's backup and recovery software to facilitate granular object restores with our Microsoft environment for application such as Active Directory, Exchange, and Windows. The item level restores are intuitive and straight forward. Backups regularly occur smoothly with little to no operating system stunning or end user impact.

Pros

  • Exchange Mailbox Item Level Restores
  • Active Directory Item Level Restores
  • Threat Identification within Backups
  • Centralized Reporting

Cons

  • Support while good, can be slow
  • Evaluate configuration against best practices
  • More robust Knowledge Articles and forums

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for a wide variety of backup sources. Control on Backup Infrastructure (connections to storage) could be improved to allow for more diverse environments. Replication throttling would be useful on the object level. Centralized updates from VeeamOne would be nice to ensure full compatibility amongst all installations.

Veeam is a great tool for being prepared

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Veeam Data Platform for backups - both connected and removable storage. Also use the "replication" feature for disaster recovery. One other feature that's been used is to migrate several machines from one platform to another.

Pros

  • on-site backup
  • removable copies of the backups that can be stored off-site
  • Maintaining duplicate images of servers for disaster recovery planning

Cons

  • Speed. Faster is always better. Full backups are lengthy.
  • Interface is sometimes difficult to find things. Could be more user friendly.

Likelihood to Recommend

I am an IT consultant and deal with multiple clients. Larger scale businesses where no down time is crucial are particularly well suited for my recommending Veeam.

Great for on-prem and hybrid workloads

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the Veeam Data Platform as a backup, recovery and resiliency tool for our on premise physical servers and VMWare virtualised infrastructure. Veeam Data Platform also provides replication of core LoB servers and data to multiple production hosts and to off site Disaster recovery locations. Veeam Data Platform ensures our on premise data is protected and readily available in the event of a disaster. Our use of the platform currently ends with our on premise infrastructure. Our cloud and M365 data is backed up via other means.

Pros

  • Intuitive software makes administration as simple as possible for such a complex product. Creating and managing backups can be a swift process at the basic level.
  • Managing multiple servers and locations is enhanced with Enterprise Manager. Keeping the server and backup inventory in one location is manageable.
  • The flexibility of what to backup, how to back it up and where to back it up to is second to none. the ability to add storage targets, offsite locations and cloud locations is straight forward.

Cons

  • The cloud backup application adds too much complexity to the backup of cloud assets, particularly in Azure and doesn't add enough to the standard Azure backup centre. Particularly when the cost is considered.
  • The M365 / Entra backup tools are early in their lifespan and not as well developed and feature rich as some other products on the market.
  • The core application consists of lots of components. The upgrade process is simple enough but can be time consuming. Particularly if there are elements of the product that aren't actually required.

Likelihood to Recommend

It would be very well suited to purely on premise or hybrid infrastructures, as well as for setups across multiple locations and perhaps using a multi-cloud approach or geo-separated storage, e.g. blobs and archives. I guess the best way to put it is the more complex a business' infrastructure is, the more Veeam Data Platform comes into play. For basic cloud deployments other tools might be a little simpler and less feature rich, but more easily able to complete the job due to the more basic requirements.
