Family Business Facilitator

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have a family business. I have several PCs at my home office. My remote users use Splashtop to login from their home to the target PC at my home office. My databases and email accounts are specific to the host PC so the remote user logs on to a specific PC to do a business function. Each PC has a logon so my personal PC is only accessible from me whereas my business PCs are accessible by others. When I am out of the office I often use my cell phone to log into my PC to check on emails or look at a report. Spashtop tells me if someone else is logged in that PC and I decide to bump them or not. Its not practical to do transactions from my cell phone but I can browse with it to see if I need to login from a big screen PC. to take action. I take a small laptop when I travel which lets me check on the business while I'm away. Of course my host PCs at home need to be left on to enable me to login. When power fails occur depending on the length of the outage the host PC may be off so I may need to get someone to restart that PC soo I can login.

Pros

  • can have multiple target PCs
  • Security separate per PC
  • Remote devices can be anything
  • Have control assigning who can login

Cons

  • no sure

Return on Investment

  • Life saver during Covid
  • Enables me as manager to login and conduct business when travelling
  • Staff that have sick children or ill themselves can work from home.
  • Snow days are less intrusive as much business can be conducted remotely.
  • Our telephone answering machine creates an email of the message which can be accessed remotely.

Our company needed a reliable, cost effective solution which would allow us to provide remote support to our customer's.
After a strong recommendation from one of our trusted colleagues, we decided to give Spashtop a try. We were not disappointed.
Now, after a few years of successful use, we can confidently say that Splashtop is the solution we had been looking for. It has exceeded our expectations for ease of use, capability and reliability.

Making Remote Work Easy

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is currently being utilized by our billing department to work remotely, securely.

Pros

  • Multi-user access. I can grant and control which devices my team can have access to from one screen.
  • Hi performance. No lag from any device. I especially like the multi-monitor support. I work with multiple monitors and this feature is indispensable to working efficiently.
  • Multi-device access. I can easily access my remote desktop from both my laptop and Android device.

Cons

  • I am supposed to be able to reboot my computer remotely. However I have experienced some issues with not being able to reconnect after a reboot.
  • There seem to be some issues caused with the new Windows update. They were resolved by uninstalling the update and relaunching Splashtop.
  • There was an issue with a blurry screen once after updating, but Splashtop support was able to resolve it after contacting them.

Return on Investment

  • I don't have any hard numbers to provide, but I can say that productivity has increased. Remote work adds at least an hour a day which our team can be working where before they were commuting.
  • From a recruiting point, we are more attractive to potential candidates when we can offer hybrid positions.
  • Access from anywhere can cut down on the amount of time resolving issues takes, that before would have required someone to travel on site.

Splashtop Ease of Use

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Splashtop to remote into our clients computers so even if they have a different version of the accounting software or a whole different software that they prefer to use we can still be of assistance to them by using it via Splashtop to do the work they have requested.

Pros

  • Easy to remote into other computers
  • I use it to enter items for our Sunday morning service without having to be at the church on a Saturday
  • Is very flexible and works well under many situations.

Cons

  • Understanding how to switch monitors when the client you have remoted into has multiple monitors. Its a feature I know how to use but always find myself looking for the location.

Return on Investment

  • Easy of use for myself and client
  • Productivity is more efficient due to cutting out travel and time on site where other distractions often cause the time to be longer.
