Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

We currently use Avalara within the Accounting department, as well as at the branch level where our coordinators are processing invoices and calculating tax via the Avatax module in our ERP system. In Accounting we are processing exemption certificates and returns in Avalara.

Pros

  • Communication with ERP system (SAP B1)
  • Accuracy of returns

Cons

  • Need measures in place to prevent duplication of certs (especially at the beginning data dump)
  • Need better "clean up" options, such as being able to delete or stop multiple certs within a customer.
  • Time saved adjusting tax rates in our ERP
Would give a 10 but system does have some hiccups. Avalara will bog down at times and not communicate with the ERP instantly. Would also really like more options for deleting and stopping Certs that are duplicates, fixing cert effective date (other than stopping the cert and creating a new one).
We don't need to constantly update our own tax rates, as Avalara does that for us. We can be confident that the returns are filed timely and accurately.
