TriNet functions as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and HRIS, primarily addressing human resources, payroll, and benefits management for organizations, particularly those without dedicated in-house HR staff. In TrustRadius reviews, it is widely used for handling payroll, personnel tax documentation, and administering employee benefits, a use case cited by 81% of reviewers. Reviewers frequently commend its responsive customer support and user-friendly platform, which simplifies navigation for both employees and administrators.
While the platform simplifies new employee onboarding and improves HR compliance, reviewers note areas for improvement. Concerns include customer service accessibility and knowledge, payroll platform issues like account mapping and tax communication, and challenges with reporting features. Overall, TriNet offers a mixed impact, streamlining some HR functions while introducing complexities in others.
Pros
Responsive and knowledgeable customer support staff
User-friendly and easy-to-navigate portal for employees and administrators
Thorough and straightforward new employee onboarding process
Access to better and more affordable employee benefit packages
Improved HR compliance adherence
Cons
Inconsistent customer service responsiveness and knowledge
Payroll platform issues including account mapping and tax communication
We use TriNet as our payroll and benefits department. It offloads this work and ensures we are in compliance. I typically am the only manager within TriNet, but it allows me to perform the needed actions in payroll and benefits areas without impacting my other job responsibilities. We are a small team, so TriNet helps by offloading this work.
Pros
Ease of use
Organized website interface
Cons
Better explanation of benefits for employees that have questions. TriNet is not good at helping my employees choose the best plans for them.
Up-front descriptions of the available healthcare plans.

TriNet is an easy-to-use solution to provide HR, payroll, and access to benefits to teams that do not wish to take on this burden themselves. Our small firm has access to great healthcare plans that are easy to implement that we otherwise would not without a service like TriNet.
We use Trinet for processing payroll and providing benefits to our employees. It is used by the whole organization. Both functions are critical to our operation, since Trinet provides them in a cost-effective and competitive manner. Before Trinet, we had an extremely hard time procuring health care coverage that was cost-effective.
Pros
Cost effective health-care options.
Excellent support, very easy to get in touch with.
Timely payroll.
Cons
New online dashboard is buggy and missing functionality, needs work.
Sometimes information is difficult to find and is stored in multiple places. It would be nice to have a single place in the online dashboard where all the relevant PDF info sheets reside.
It would be nice if there was some sort of a live chat on the dashboard.

Trinet works well when there is no need for an internal HR department or where there is a desire to take advantage of their scale.
Our small virtual office company uses Trinet for payroll and human resources purposes. As a result, we don't need to worry about compliance with state and federal laws when it comes to these essential company functions. We only need to update timesheets in TriNet's system, and TriNet does the rest!
Pros
I'm not extremely familiar with ALL that TriNet does for us, as I am not the one who enters employee and time data each week. So, from my perspective, I'd say that TriNet takes the worry of legal compliance when it comes to payroll and human resources off of our plates. We know that TriNet will take care of those issues.
Cons
I have no examples of possible areas of improvement.

Small companies like ours may not have the resources to provide employees with all that they need. TriNet takes the worry of payroll and human resource issues away from us, so that we can concentrate on the business at hand.
We use TriNet for HRBI at our small startup and like the speed and flexibility it gives us to quickly add new employees and manage contractors.
Pros
Quickly Onboarding new employees
Employee onboarding policy acceptance
Employee Classifications (FTE/Contractor)
Cons
Integration with Google workspaces
User Interface
Employee Portal

A small or mid-sized business or mid-late stage startup. Onboarding contractors for a short project. TriNet seems to perform exceptionally well in this scenario. For a larger company, it seems like it would be clunky. Also the UI is a bit dated.
