I found TriNet is very well suited for small businesses with remote employees across several states. TriNet is not well suited for remote employees located outside of the United States and Globalization Partners is a very expensive company to work through and is the "partner" firm to TriNet in these cases.
TriNet and the PEO program we utilize, allows us to manage all of our Human Resources related tasks and gives us the most up-to-date information and guidelines to properly address all aspects of our Human Capital (the most important asset any company has). The reports are utilized by 7 of our 19 employees while 3 of us utilize and manage all of the services on a daily basis. The App, GUI, and web portal are all very user friendly and easy to use but by far the best attribute TriNet has to offer is their customer service and the hands-on assistance provided by the account and relationship managers. The response time is almost immediate in most cases and our support team gets us the right information the first time. We utilize them almost weekly.
Having a smaller headcount and being a small business (especially during the struggles the market can bring), TriNet allows us to manage our company as if we had a full-time HR Manager onsite without the cost and challenges that can often-times bring. The ease of managing payroll, benefits, workers comp, retirement plans, etc. gives us the ability to focus more on our business and growth.
Pros
Communication. the quality of Human Capital within the TriNet family.
Providing current and applicable HR and market information to businesses in many different industries.
Reporting information and availability of data that help to analyze all aspects of HR related issues and costs.
Cons
We recently had an instance of separation from the parent company retirement program and the migration from their platform to a new, stand-alone platform took months longer than expected.
The recent change in market/economic conditions has caused a loss of Human Capital within TriNet causing some extended wait times and a slight loss in communication as compared to 4+ months ago.

I have recommended TriNet to multiple colleagues over the past 2+ years. I have been tasked with assisting a new implementation for one of my previous clients within the coming months. I potentially have another prospect within 6-12 months as well. The workload it can remove from your daily/weekly task list is likely much higher than most companies (that handle their payroll and benefits in-house) would expect. The referral they offer is also quite a nice bonus.
It is being used by the whole organization. Trinet takes care of all major HR and accounting issues in the company and allows us to focus on our core business without being distracted by issues we have no knowledge of.
Pros
Payroll
Benefits
Customer service
Cons
Enrollment period requires a lot of attention.
401K plans are managed by someone else.

If you are one or two employees in the company then having TriNet allows you to manage the business in an affordable way with no need to invest more time in understanding what is needed and what is not.

Trinet is our company's PPO, taking care of payroll and benefits administration.
Pros
Trinet removes the burden of administering payroll and benefits from our small company, saving time and money that we otherwise could not afford.
Trinet's health plan options are robust enough that when we are pursuing competitive hires, we compare favorably to other companies they may be considering.
Trinet has always been very responsive when I have had a question or issue. I can expect a response to my question usually within a few hours.
Cons
Their new and updated website is causing me and my employees fits...it was such a major redesign that we often can't find what we need. I have had to contact them a couple of times for help finding things, and for a while, functionality that I needed was not there. It has been restored now, however.

Trinet would be a good choice for companies in the 5-20 employees range, or where HR and accounting expertise is not a part of the current organization or a desired hire. For companies of three or fewer employees, the monthly administration fee for Trinet may not outweigh the advantages of more choices for benefits and an HR support network.
The TriNet solution is being used across the organization mainly to support payroll and benefits. In addition to this, we utilize our HR specialist to improve our HR processes within the organization.
Pros
Payroll is seamless.
W-2s are prepared by TriNet, making the year-end process very easy.
Benefit renewals.
Cons
TriNet Passport is not configured to upload customized employee handbook; handbook therefore not located in Passport.
PTO request has a submit and save button. The save button is not needed.
Healthcare plans were confusing when we first were onboarded to TriNet. It seemed there was a lack of understanding by the TriNet staff of the plans. We leaned on them for their knowledge, but the process was confusing.

TriNet is well suited to run payroll, benefits and HR.
The tech platform for HR passport has been buggy and complicated for our employees to use. When the TriNet sales person sold us the product, he said the technology was something that set TriNet apart. I would not agree with this statement as our other PEOs had more straightforward platforms with dashboards for employees, admin and management that were easy to use.
