What is TravelBank?

TravelBank, headquartered in San Francisco, offers their travel management for businesses, featuring booking management, travel policy management, spend tracking and management, and other features.

Categories & Use Cases

No more paper receipts - get TravelBank ASAP!

Pros

  • Ease of use - TravelBank is super user-friendly and easy to use whether you use the platform online or through their app.
  • Ability to effectively track expense submission, approval and reimbursement process. TravelBank allows users to see exactly where their expense report is in the process.

Cons

  • The scanning tool, which is meant to extract information from a photograph of the receipt, is not the best. More often than not, information is incorrect or simply not populated.
  • The digital reimbursement method currently built into TravelBank is a wire transfer which means that our company incurs costs when reimbursing in this way. Therefore, we are still using paper checks to reimburse employees. We would love to see a partnership with a digital partner such as Venmo or PayPal to mitigate this.

Return on Investment

  • Positive - Significantly less time spent on employee expense reimbursement process.
  • Positive - Significantly less time spent on billing back clients for expenses.

Amazing App for managing your Travel Expenses

Pros

  • It will automatically identify the name of the merchant.
  • It's easy and quick to take picture of a receipt.
  • Generates reports.

Cons

  • You have to enter in the amount-- which I'm OK with doing, since other apps don't OCR the amount.
  • Condense the receipts to fewer pages.
  • Remember transaction types, ie Chevron should be "Gas," Chevy's should be "Meals."

Return on Investment

  • Saved me time in preparing my expense reports.
  • Saved me time in reviewing expense reports from my team.
  • I don't have to mess with the receipts trying to remember what I had spent.

TravelBank cuts travel costs for enterprises while rewarding travelers

Pros

  • TravelBank encourages employees to book lower cost flights and hotels. Employees receive half the difference between the average cost for the service and the cost the company is paying in the form of vouchers for Amazon/Airbnb etc. For example, if the average cost of a flight from SFO to JFK is $500, and the employee books a $400 flight, the employee gets $50 and the company saves $50.

Cons

  • The booking experience is a little hit-and-miss. I've had problems booking multi-city itineraries, where no flights were found, even though I could see them via Google.
  • Their processes could use some improvement. For example, a flight was cancelled and I received no notification from TravelBank - I just happened to open the airline's app and saw it there. When I called the airline to rebook they said they'd sent an email to TravelBank, but TravelBank didn't check it in time.

Return on Investment

  • I'm not in the finance department, but I'd guess our travel spend per employee has reduced since we started using TravelBank.
  • We now have one travel supplier, with flights and hotels paid from a central account, rather than everyone booking through a variety of channels with their own card. In case of emergency, the company knows which flight you're on, which hotel you're staying at.
