Slack serves Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services firms as a primary communication and collaboration platform, essential for managing complex, project-based work and distributed teams. In TrustRadius reviews, its channel-based organization is highly valued for segmenting discussions across multiple client engagements and specialized technical groups, significantly reducing internal email volume and accelerating project execution.
The platform's robust integrations with development and project management tools like Jira and GitHub are a key strength. However, reviewers note challenges with search functionality for retrieving older project documentation, a critical need for long-term engagements, cited by 21% of reviewers. Occasional performance issues and limitations in thread management also impact workflow. Despite these, Slack generally enhances collaboration and productivity for technical service delivery.
Pros
Centralized communication for complex, multi-client projects
Robust integrations with specialized technical tools like Jira and GitHub
Organized channels for topic-specific technical discussions and project clarity
Real-time audio 'Huddles' for agile problem-solving and informal consultations
Significant reduction in internal email volume, streamlining workflows
Cons
Difficulty searching and retrieving older files and messages, impacting knowledge retention
Challenges with thread management for sustained technical discussions
Occasional system performance issues affecting real-time collaboration
Audio and video glitches in huddles impacting ad-hoc communication
Potential for information loss if channels are not properly managed
I use Slack as the main (and almost only) communication platform in my company. I use Slack every day to communicate with my team (we are a remote company) as it helps us to stay in constant communication and on top of all our responsibilities. With Slack, we can also have calls right away to resolve any problems.
Pros
Easy to use
Helps to have fast calls on the same platform
Easy to send messages
User friendly
Cons
Template
Saved messages
Keep unread messages

Slack is one of the best messaging apps for remote teams. It has a lot of different features like huddles, group text, channels, and more. It also has cool things like emojis. One of the best parts is that the calls work really well and when you do a huddle it automatically puts a status on your profile.
In our organization, Slack is the primary communication platform for internal collaboration across departments. We use for managing team workflows through integrations, file sharing and messaging. Slack help us to enhance remote collaboration ex: team members working in different locations can stay connected easily. It helps in replacing long email threads and helps resolve issues faster. Scope of our use case with Slack is to support both synchronous and asynchronous communication. We use Slack huddles for quick voice calls and Slack connect to collaborate with external vendors securely.
Pros
Faster incident response: with real time alerts and discussions in threads
Reduced context switching: Integrations allow us to view logs, pull requests updates and tasks assignments.
Remote Efficiency: Especially useful for our hybrid/remote setup
Cons
Thread Management gets messy
Search experience is limited
Poor performance with large message history

When a prod ETL job fails, Slack enables immediate coordination across teams. For example if a Snowflake pipeline fails alerts are posted in a monitoring channel via an Airflow integration. Long discussions about data architecture, schema design or onboarding documents are harder to manage in Slack, Message gets burried and important insights are lost in the scroll.

Through Slack my organization is able to silo important discussions and reach solutions to both internal and customer-related questions. Slack easily integrates with Google which is important for sharing and housing documents. Slack also allows the team to communicate via video chat which is useful for quick huddles and large ideas that are tough to convey through messages.
Pros
Organizing chats between individuals and groups
Linking to Google for document sharing
Video calls
Cons
Customizing the desktop view
Keys like enter/shift are different in the slack text box
AI summarizing for vacation messages would be nice

Slack is great for businesses that have between 50-500 employees because it makes interoffice communication simple and keeps discussions focused and organized. You can quickly search for old messages with their search feature. The issue with Slack is that it can be a bit cluttered depending on all of the different channels you have open but those can easily be muted or removed from your view.

Before Slack, fragmented communication and the volume of emails exchanged internally created a problem that needed to be nipped in the bud. As the company grew, with new offices opening around the world, we needed to respect different time zones and integrate separate tools and solutions to streamline work. So, we adopted Slack
Pros
With the JIRA integration, our folks can pick a ticket and respond instantly. This saves time and prevents delays caused by email, which is how the team used to operate’. The team now responds much more quickly. What’s more, the person raising the ticket is automatically notified when the problem is solved, removing the need for lengthy back-and-forth communication.
The company culture feeds off the sense of connectedness that starts with channels and Huddles – an audio-first way to communicate – used by employees each day. ‘Huddles is a big part of our every day
Slack analytics to measure engagement and sentiment, while multiple wellness surveys each month provide the necessary data

More visiblity into Channel level Analatics

Slack permeates MiQ’s systems and allows the company to use it for almost everything, from fast employee onboarding and vendor communication, to support of remote work, to analysing and contributing to employee wellness and engagement. It’s akin to a village square where the company can find their voice, share clear communication, get work done, take part in celebrations and connect with external collaborators.
Slack at Numerator is mainly used for communication and collaboration within the organization. We can communicate directly with our colleagues or we can create a slack channel or group to communicate with more than one person. The business problem that Slack solve is internal communication by providing a great platform for teams to collaborate. As Slack can also be integrated with other third party tools like Github, we get timely update on Slack about the latest release on the github repositories.
Pros
Slack really provides a great and easy to use user interface with good appearance option like Slack theme and custom theme.
Integration of Slack with other third party tools like JIRA, Confluence, Github.
Threaded conversation allows us to do a side discussion out of the main flow.
Cons
Slack should improve their huddle feature. Most of the times when I huddle someone either they are not able to hear me or I am not able to hear them, I have to again join the huddle to fix this issue.
Slack should include the option to create a table in messages, as it is sometimes required to send the text in a tabular format.
File management can be improved as it is sometimes difficult to search the old files and documents.

Slack is well suited for communication and collaboration within the organization. Every organization need a platform where different team and employees spread across time zones can communicate with ease through text or over a voice call. Slack is less appropriate for formal documentation and for sharing any sensitive information or communication.
We use Slack to chat with our team, share quick updates & keep everything in one place... It's way easier than emails and helps us stay on the same page. We have also got different channels for different topics to keep things tidy and make working together smoother.
Pros
Slack makes it super easy to have real-time conversations with teammates
The ability to create channels for different topics keeps everything organized
find info fast.
Integrations with tools like Jira, Google Drive & Zoom save so much time we don’t need to switch between apps constantly.
Cons
Sometimes it’s hard to find old messages or files with search, it can feel a bit messy.
Notifications can get overwhelming, especially if you're part of too many channels.
Threads are useful, but they’re easy to miss, and it’s not always clear when someone replies

Slack works great for quick team chats, sharing updates on the fly. Its also perfect for coordinating during live calls or project work but its not ideal for big or majority announcements like what's broadcast feature or chats that need to be tracked long term or when you need a formal chats.
Slack is used to communicate with team members. The problem lies in getting a unified platform where all team members can share progress, get answers, alert others of an issue, or a new situation or client, and as a low-key platform to ensure remote team members are online and available for work. My use case is a consolidated platform where all business-related communications take place.
Pros
Channels, creating specialized rooms for specific topics
Integrations, connecting with apps like Trello for task management
Voice, the ability to communicate through voice known as Huddles
Cons
Not able to see files and conversations older than 90 days on the free plan
A more intuitive UI to eliminate learning curve and hurdles
Limit the number of user or channels on the free plan instead of not being able to view information older than 90 days

Having a private business messaging platform is the key takeaway here. For small businesses wanting to have a personal and personalized messaging platform that can handle all aspects and departments for the business is advisable. It's crucial to know which team member can have access to certain information and which department cannot. Likewise, a group or channel where all team members can share information or make a general announcement is also needed for growth and information dissemination.
We use this for internal communication and have each channel listed by topic. We got overwhelmed with too many channels so we had to remove some that we no longer use
Pros
Reminders
Gif's for fun
video chat

Cons
Easy to use video, it is always confusing
how to view missed DM's

Love how easy this is for communication and the fact that it is available to use on your phone using the app
So my organisation or pretty much all the big MNCs use Slack for internal communication, It is really convenient, you can easily track old conversations, easily make the channels and much much more. In my organisation, since it's remote work, clear communication is really important and with Slack, you can manage that easily.
Pros
The thread option is really really good and crucial, you don't miss any update or communication when you are away or haven't checked the Slack for a while.
The integration of other softwares such as Google meet, JIRA, Google drive etc, you can get all the notifications in one place so that is really cool.
The interface is really efficient and easy to monitor, you are having personal chats, conversations on numerous channels, managing raised escalations and sharing links, documents and so much more and doing managing all that could be complicated but the interface makes it really easy.
You can mute, unmute, prioritize, snooze the channels as per your convenience. Updating your current status so that your colleagues know exactly when to contact you and when you are occupied or not available, That makes the communication efficient.
Making a huddle and sharing your screen to discuss something up with your mates, that is also cool
Cons
Everything is great but if i have to improve something then i would do something about tracking old escalation, since we work remotely, pretty much all the communication happen over Slack and that includes the escalations as well and since we have high volume of that, it becomes sometimes difficult to look for an older escalation for references. So if we could do something about that then it would be perfect.
Likelihood to Recommend
So Slack is pretty much perfect (obviously there is always room for improvement), whether it is communication with your colleagues or handling escalations or tracking records of everything you do, all of it is easily manageable. i don't think there is any other application which can do what Slack does with this much efficiency.
