Overall Satisfaction with Slack
So my organisation or pretty much all the big MNCs use Slack for internal communication, It is really convenient, you can easily track old conversations, easily make the channels and much much more. In my organisation, since it's remote work, clear communication is really important and with Slack, you can manage that easily.
Pros
- The thread option is really really good and crucial, you don't miss any update or communication when you are away or haven't checked the Slack for a while.
- The integration of other softwares such as Google meet, JIRA, Google drive etc, you can get all the notifications in one place so that is really cool.
- The interface is really efficient and easy to monitor, you are having personal chats, conversations on numerous channels, managing raised escalations and sharing links, documents and so much more and doing managing all that could be complicated but the interface makes it really easy.
- You can mute, unmute, prioritize, snooze the channels as per your convenience. Updating your current status so that your colleagues know exactly when to contact you and when you are occupied or not available, That makes the communication efficient.
- Making a huddle and sharing your screen to discuss something up with your mates, that is also cool
Cons
- Everything is great but if i have to improve something then i would do something about tracking old escalation, since we work remotely, pretty much all the communication happen over Slack and that includes the escalations as well and since we have high volume of that, it becomes sometimes difficult to look for an older escalation for references. So if we could do something about that then it would be perfect.
- Since my organisation use all the internal communication over Slack it is really easy to manage all the conversation and track all the escalations. the thread option is really cool because you won't have to worry about losing any conversation or miss any update.
- With creating different channels, you can easily manage different tasks and since my role consists variety of workflows, it is really convenient for me to create different channels for each and then easily monitor them.
- Sometimes it happens that the interpretation of thing could be different from person to person over chat or text hence the huddle option is really good so that you can easily connect with your colleagues and have a clear conversation over the call.
I think obviously Slack is much much better than Google Chat, in my previous organisation, we used to communicate everything via Google Chat or email or Google meet, it was difficult to manage because those application combined had less options and features than Slack.
