In TrustRadius reviews, Slack is a foundational communication tool for Information organizations, enabling real-time exchange across distributed teams and critical for project management. Its robust integration with essential tools like Google Drive and Salesforce is highly valued, streamlining data flow and reducing context switching. Organized discussion channels are crucial for maintaining clarity in complex project-based work and preserving institutional knowledge.
Reviewers also value automated workflows for reducing administrative overhead and Huddles for rapid, ad-hoc decision-making. However, limitations exist, particularly concerning search functionality, which 3 of 16 reviewers found challenging for efficient information discovery. Concerns about thread management, performance issues, and call quality also impact productivity. Overall, Slack significantly enhances operational efficiency and collaboration for Information professionals, despite these areas for improvement.

Slack is our primary internal communication tool. We are a remote company that relies heavily on Slack to stay in contact with one another and share department and company-wide updates. We make heavy use of various channels, including both public and private, as well as direct messages (DMs). Overall, we could not function without Slack. I also use workflows to automate and improve certain processes.
Pros
Channels for teams/specific projects.
Threading to avoid clutter in channels.
Search
Organization of DMs, channels, notifications, etc.
Schedule send.
Cons
More options for saving for later.
Cleaning up the clutter of messages you've already read and responded to.
Audio on huddle.

Slack is significant for companies of all sizes because the organization it brings is proper, regardless of the company's size. It is well suited for intra/inter-department communication, company-wide information, project updates and channels, simple workflow automations, direct messaging, integrations (there are so many like Google Calendar, Gdrie, Donut, Rattle, Salesforce, etc), informal chats with Huddle, Huddle screenshare, and for use on mobile devices.
I use Slack virtually anytime I need to communicate with one of my team members. I will shoot them a quick DM, or I can Huddle them if we need to talk through something vocally or share our screen. I'll often send audio messaged through direct message as well. My company will also post important updates in group channels that are critical for me to see.
Pros
Good UI, easy to use
Team conversations in large channels with easy tagging
Powerful search functionality
Integrations with third party tools
Cons
Too many notifications
Poor thread management
Limited file storage

Slack is great for project-based work. You can organize channels and conversations around specific projects. You can use #s to keep discussions organized, and provide updates while certain users are still offline.
Slack is not the best suited for knowledge base management or heavy document management. It is often difficult to search for files that were once shared, and there are also size limits on files.
In our office, we use Slack for all internal communication, work updates, status reports, audio and video calls (huddles), and for various other tasks. We use it as one and only team messaging application daily. We can create a channel very easily here. Its so easy to use for our new members and also Integrates with many other collaboration and office tools. What i love most in this app is the customizable features. For birthdays, Work anniversaries, inductions related update all at one place. From new joiner induction programs to farewells, we use Slack exclusively for all occasions to send wishes. It’s very helpful for us to maintain smooth communication and complete projects efficiently. I think it’s not just for tech member like me but works brilliantly for marketing, HR, and even our remote colleagues.
Pros
Team Communication with Channels
Quick and Smooth Huddles
Notifications and Workflows Customization
Integration with Third-Party Tools
Cons
The audio and video quality is low, needs an improvement
Need some Offline Functionality
Sometimes the app is too slow
It crashed also multiple times

Quick Team Projects: Our remote development team members can see updates in real-time, sharing files, and huddles in order to meet our target. Team Updates & Fun: HR shares in #announcements, team bonds in #shoutouts with emojis and birthday bots. Video Call Quality : Training 150 member via huddles lags, video quality also not so good all time.
My organization uses Slack as our instant messaging tool, broadcast messaging tools and a way to keep up to date on various events within Salesforce that we deem noteworthy (e.g., Closed Won opportunities).
Pros
Instant communication with peers and folks outside of our organization
Ability to integrate with Salesforce
Mobile friendly
Cons
Outlook integration exists but is subpar

Slack’s great for quick check-ins, fast updates, and keeping teams in sync without flooding inboxes. It shines when paired with tools like Salesforce, sending updates right into your workflow. Plus, it’s awesome for team culture—think shoutouts, memes, and random fun.
It’s not built for deep thinking or documenting big decisions—things get lost fast. Sensitive convos? Better handled in person or over a call. And if you need to focus, all the pings can really get in the way.
We use Slack to communicate with individual team members and groups. The interface is really easy to use and it tracks activity so that it makes it easy to find and search for conversations to take action on them. Every company should use Slack to make it easy to communicate in real time and it helps to reduce emails.
Pros
communicate easily
tag people in conversations
group topics for discussion
search for conversations
Cons
Search can make it easier to find past conversations
With so many slacks, how do you tag or ensure that people see conversations
Likelihood to Recommend
The search capability needs to be improved and need a way to see if people tagged have read message.

Our main communication tool is Slack, where we group conversations into channels specifically for each product. This framework minimises superfluous noise, guarantees that pertinent team members have access to product-specific information, and helps to keep discussions on topic. By grouping conversations into channels tailored to a particular product, Slack facilitates centralisation of communication, collaboration, transparency, and expedited decision-making. The scope of our use case for Slack is focused on product-specific communication and collaboration.
Pros
Centralized communication is better
We love quick huddles
Use use workflows that automate our daily tasks
Cons
Despite Slack's extensive search, the results can be confusing.
Slack does not enable refined formatting, however it does support basic formatting (bold, italics, lists).
Using metadata tagging could enhance file search.

Slack is used as day to day communication in my organisation. Slack helps me communicate with my colleagues every day and also if they face any issue I can huddle them along with that In a huddle 2 people can share their screen and also I can also use the pencil icon to draw on the screen. The Slack workflows helps me in automating task such as getting weekly reminder for my timesheet monthly reminder for attendance regularisation also I have created my own workflow to get weekly expenses and linked it with google sheet. In Slack, I have also explored the Agentforce Agents Actions. I have also integrated Jira and Outlook to get their notification and summary in a single app, which save my laptop RAM. Also the UI is quite good and easy to use.
Pros
Slack workflows which helps to automate day to day or weekly tasks
Slack Huddle which helps to communicate within the app and also the chat is saved in thread
Slack To Do Lists which helps to manage small projects
Slack Canvas to keep the whole team on the same page
Cons
Slack workflows not having if and else condition or for loop like Salesforce flows
Slack to schedule a meeting at a particular time
Privacy issues as I recently got to know that Slack admins can view private group chats

As I am a developer I have experienced that connecting with people on Slack is faster, then calling them on teams. Also on Slack. It is easier for me to maintain the conversations. Also there are cool features like Slack workflows and to do list and canvas. Also, the global search helps me to find chat from a particular person in a group.
We have teams based in multiple countries, and across multiple offices, and it allows us to all work together, as if we were in a single location. it does a great job of narrowing the distance between us.
Pros
Conversation threading
Single platform for audio and video and chat
Easily accessible on all devices and platforms
Cons
Resource utilization on computers can be poor
Recent redesign of sidebar has made things more complicated to organize

I used Slack in both past business and current , At Tech click, Slack is an integral part of our team it is great for the project management team with virtual workspace for remote meetings which is essential as we are an ANZ operation and with different time zones we need this specific product and it also helps us stay connected on the move in Taxis or at airports etc using our phones
Pros
integration tools e.g. google drive
facilitates real time comms
helps enable remote work support
team collaboration enhanced
Cons
