[Semrush] is great. I can go in and make changes, update the report and come back to it knowing progress has been made. Some Google updates are known in advance and changes to reports are made in preparation for this.

SEMrush is used by our organization to find out what kind of keywords are used by our competition. SEMRush is also very useful in running site audits and finds potential problems. It is also great to quickly find out text and keywords that are used in PPC campaigns by our competition.
Pros
Competitive Intelligence – You can find detailed information about your competitors' PPC Ad Campaigns (Ad History and Ad Copy), their content marketing strategy, keywords they go after for both search and PPC.
Site Audit. Get very detailed site audits of your website and your competitors so you can quickly fix potential big problems.
You can create separate folders (called "projects") and you can compare your main competitors on the following topics (backlink audit, site audit, position tracking, on-page SEO checker)
Cons
Only one area. When it comes to calculating the amount of traffic a site gets from PPC - the number that comes out is not accurate.

SEMRush is well suited for any company or marketing agency where keyword research is needed. It's also great for staff since they have really informative webinars with some of the top professionals in the business. This software is less suited for companies or individuals that are not passionate about SEO. If you don't have a passion for digital marketing and specifically for SEO you won't take the time and learn everything that is needed.

SEMRush was used within the whole organization at my last job. The best part of the tool is that it integrates many aspects of a good SEO tool. Being a consulting [company] it was always important for us to get a complete overview of the overall performance and important KPIs of any given website/client. SEMRush was always to the point to provide us needed input for best possible performance overview.
Pros
First and foremost, it's an all-in-one marketing toolkit and provides an overview to all the major KPIs for any given website.
Also, I love how you can choose the country right before adding the URL of the domain one wants to analyze.
Also, the analysis of paid traffic/keywords also helps not just in SEO but also in SEM.
The fact that one can do backlink, keyword and competitive analysis, rank audits just under one window is great about SEMRush.
Cons
Often I have realized that it crashed when a heavy amount of data was exported. Of course, I don't know if it's my PC/browser or the tool itself.
SEMRush can also work on making working on multiple devices/platforms easier. This would improve the usability a lot.
The tool itself has a steep learning curve which is not necessarily bad as every detailed/comprehensive tool is a little complicated. But the UI/UXcan surely has a room for improvement.

I can barely think of any scenario where SEMRush is less relevant. The reason I say this is because for any organization which had a produce/service which is cold online and has competitors this tool will drive a lot of value. It is a complete toolset for companies to analyze their online landscape, competitors, where they stand online and their online brand footprint. It very well covers SEO and SEM audits.
