We are currently building out our website structure into Optimizely Content Management System from Drupal and combining what is 35 different websites into one mega structure built on variable design modules to keep branding consistency across the board. We currently suffer from platform updates and keeping brand guidelines across changing materials. doing so is allowing us to translate and update things quicker and easier in a more manageable way

If you want to build a website quickly there are plenty of ways to do so with some great examples and plenty of support both from the company and in the forums. if you want to build a more complex structure you can but be ready to spend the time to build exactly what you need as a solid foundation goes a massive way before building out content and making those choices early and sticking with them helps

It would be nice to have out of the box blocks that can be aligned with our look and feel
Cannot see where content is used within catalog

CMS helps us to keep an organized site layout and simplify navigation for users.

We use the Optimizely Content Management System to author and maintain our externally facing public website. This allows us to develop versatile web pages for both public and private (signed in) user consumption. Additionally, it allows us to make quick changes as needed and create new pages based on previously developed content.

Optimizely Content Management System is great for simplistic to mid level complexity websites. If you need a site stood up quickly that you can iterate on changes for it is great. However, if you have a complex website that is trying to do very specific things or show a lot of content on pages, it can get hard to manage without good diligence by site authors.

We have multiple e-commerce (D2C and B2B) sites that we use the CMS to build and manage content shown to our customers. We are still on CMS 11 and feel it runs slow at times. There is a lot we need developer help when creating content (changing colors of banner, etc.).

Pros

Hierarchy for site pages makes it easier to locate content
Ability to collaborate with team members when creating or editing content
Drag and drop functionality makes it easy to share assets across different pages.

Cons

Approval sequence can get confusing for new users.
Speed of CMS 11 with multiple sites and assets is slow.
Lower (test) environments need to be ramped up to better allow for enhancement testing without concern of site performance.

We work with vendors to help create campaign content for some of our e-commerce sites. The content is shared across multiple channels and platforms. It works well to allow the vendor limited access to create within CMS instead of having to recreate from screenshots, mock-ups, etc. This has made campaigns more cohesive and reduced work load.

We use the Optimizely Content Management System to host two of our websites. We have it connected to our PIM system for product handling and will soon connect it to our DAM system. It works as a window into our company, products and helps visitors locate dealers and service centers. We've been developing on Optimizely Content Management System for 4 years and are in the process of updating to 12.

Sorting page order based on language instead of being locked to master language
Image handling isn't great. If you replace an existing image, the front end won't always update.
Working with languages, the Optimizely Content Management System can sometimes get confused on what the active language the editor is using vs what the active language actually is
Sometimes you have to clear your browser cache to get the Optimizely Content Management System to load.

Likelihood to Recommend

Working with large enterprise sites with multiple languages or you're hosting several websites in the same CMS, Optimizely Content Management System works great. If you do not work with multiple languages or just have one website, I wouldn't use Optimizely Content Management System. It's more expensive to develop for and onboarding can take more time.
