ManageEngine OpManager - Great option for Network device monitoring

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ManageEngine OpManager is being used in our organization for monitoring our complete infra devices. We use it for monitoring the servers, virtual machines, load balancers, firewalls, routers, switches, and bandwidth usage. Monitoring these devices helps us in understanding if there are any issues associated with any of them. Thus helping us to arrive at the root cause. We can set alerts so that when the threshold gets breached the notifications are sent. We are using it for monitoring server performance during the load test and stress test and thus we get stats that can help us decide the resources required for a particular application to be hosted.

Pros

  • Centralized dashboard providing a unified view of all devices.
  • Alerts can be set and email notifications can be sent through the platform whenever there are issues.
  • Real time monitoring helps in early fixing and historical data can be collected and based on the stats reported by the tool decisions can be derived at.

Cons

  • Alerts has to be configured correctly otherwise unnecessary bombarding of alerts can cause inconvenience.
  • The server on which ManageEngine OpManager is to be deployed should have higher resources as monitoring a large number of devices may slow down the performance of the system.
  • Configuring the advanced features may require a learning curve.

Return on Investment

  • ROI has very much increased as we are able to fix issues in a faster manner.
  • Monitoring for system administrators has become easy using ManageEngine OpManager getting a centralized view.
  • Alerts are helping during odd hours where manual intervention is not possible.

We OpManager to monitor our server and network. Monitor their resource usage which helps us in our capacity planning. OpManager provides us with Health, performance, Utilization reports. Helps us keep track of the system uptime. Utilities IP Address Manager, Switch port mapper , Packet Analysis, help us in our day to day troubleshooting.

Pros

  • Server and Network Health and Performance monitoring
  • Link monitoring helps us with the uptime and bandwidth utilization of the link
  • Process monitoring helps us in keep track of the process runnin in the system
  • Has huge database of reports to choose from

Cons

  • More reports for network devices need to be added
  • For bandwidth we have prepare custom report it would be better if a ready to use report is available
  • Report preparation could be a more user friendly

Great monitoring solution

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hi, we are using ManageEninge OpManager for montoring around 30 network switches, two firewall cluster, in total 170 devices so far..

We are a production company and there is no place for network problems because we are producing 24/7.

So OpManager helped us a lot monitoring all our servers and critical network infrastructure.

Pros

  • Proactive network monitoring
  • Great response time
  • Great database of products supporting
  • Great notification system
  • Support is also awesome
  • Many other great things ;)

Cons

  • Updating OpManager is not the easiest
  • Some devices (for example flow monitoring and raid systems) are not supported or not implented

Return on Investment

  • I don't know if you can calculate ROI with a monitoring solution, there are more factors to calculate.
  • We found a really big problem with a network switch (faulty transceiver) in a trunk configuration with OPManager. this caused us serial troubles with the overall network stability.
  • We are loosing around € 3.000 to 5.000 per hour if our network is not working so this was a great help to fix this issue
  • Our label printers are really important to monitoring in our warehouse system, this makes OPManager a great solution for that

Great Network Tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use OpManager daily for network, server and firewall monitoring. It has great alerts like rouge detection and failures throughout the network. Firewall rules can be managed on it as well as any alert you have setup for threshold peaks and just overall switch and router health. It has so many different uses. The problem it has solved for us is network transparency. We can see a lot more of the things going on with our systems and network with this product

Pros

  • Rogue detection for people who just plug in my network
  • threshold monitoring when spikes of data usage are moving across the Newtwork
  • alerts when thing are removed or added to the network and alerts on port failure

Cons

  • I find it difficult sometimes to setup certain monitor
  • other uses I am not taking advantage of I am sure there are many
  • training on setting up proper monitors

Return on Investment

  • it has been a money saver for us to use ourselves
  • the ROI was early and well worth the money
  • the support has always been great when I have an issue
