Saves time on payroll

Time tracking + payroll calculations me 30-60 minutes every time I run payroll.

Simplifies HR tasks

Integrated workers' comp, so I didn't have to find an outside carrier and get quotes—it's all taken care of in the same platform.

Besides Gusto, what other software do you regularly use? How likely would you be to recommend it to a friend or colleague?

From 14 reviews

This analysis synthesizes 14 recent product reviews to identify software solutions commonly used alongside Gusto and assess reviewer recommendations. Reviewers most frequently mentioned QuickBooks Online (4 of 14 reviewers) and Guideline (2 of 14 reviewers). Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Gusto for payroll, onboarding, and offboarding of employees, PTO tracking, and HR functions. For a small business, it can’t be beat for costs, protecting both employee and employer. We love it and would never go back to in-house or local payroll services.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • PTO tracking/Requests
  • HR

Cons

  • Hour tracking from week to week on split employee pay.
  • AI analysis of employee hours submitted for any kind of false reporting.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for basic payroll and benefits administration. Employees love the functionality of mobile hour tracking. Employers love the support available from live people and effective online chat and faq.

Gusto - A modern payroll platform

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a fully remote cybersecurity startup spread across eight states, we needed payroll that just worked. Gusto made it painless to set up W-2 and 1099 payroll, automatically handling multi-state tax filings so we never lost sleep over misclassified contractors. We were also able to launch benefits, health, dental, and vision, in days, which was crucial as we got off the ground. Their support team is quick to answer even the smallest question. With Gusto handling the details, we spend our time building security tools, not spreadsheets.

Pros

  • Payroll Automation
  • Benefits
  • Multi-State Employee withholding
  • Notices and Tax form evaluation by a human

Cons

  • Integrations with Retirement
  • Integrations with Quickbooks
  • Notifications

Likelihood to Recommend

It just works, there are humans their to help and it is a modern user friendly platform.

Gusto is a great choice for managing payroll in a small business

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I'm a single-member LLC and the sole employee of my business. I've been using Gusto for about 3 years. Gusto's payroll features are simple to use. I appreciate the filing of payroll-related Federal and State reports, such as quarterly filings, end-of-year reporting, and W-2s.

Pros

  • Payroll preparation
  • Managing direct deposits for employees
  • Managing required Federal and State payroll-related filings

Cons

  • I don't have any complaints and feel the platform works well for my purposes.

Likelihood to Recommend

I appreciate the filing of payroll-related Federal and State reports, such as quarterly filings, end-of-year reporting, and W-2s. My accountant can access the information, so I don't have to take any action to ensure she has the necessary payroll information to prepare my business and personal tax returns. I have not experienced any problems with Gusto thus far and plan to continue to use the platform for the foreseeable future.

Gusto is a complete GODSEND!!! I want to focus on doing the work that my business provides, not actually running the business details, and Gusto makes it all super easy and manageable. I could not ask for a better or more user-friendly platform.

  • very user-friendly and intuitive interface
  • well-organized and easy to find everything I need
  • good partnerships with other platforms that can provide related services

Likelihood to Recommend

great for small business operators with limited capacity and resources to manage business day-to-day functions.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use it for HR, payroll, and benefits. It has been fantastic for onboarding new employees and makes payroll particularly easy. I didn’t have to worry about withholding enough or payroll taxes. I also love that I can offer benefits and all of my employees has signed up for 401k. It feels good to take good care of the people who make my business run. It has been great!

Pros

  • Payroll is exceedingly simple and takes me less than 10 minutes.
  • I like that employees can upload receipts for reimbursement and that Gusto can track that for me.
  • I love that Gusto connects to my accounting software!
  • Gusto makes tracking time off super easy.

Cons

  • There are very few! I had one error where I was double payed but this was easily resolved because of strong customer service on Gusto’s end.
  • I would like more options for healthcare. It would be great if different people could choose totally different plans from more than 1 provider.
  • I would like more options for life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability.

Likelihood to Recommend

Gusto saves me so much time and stress! As a new business owner, the learning curve has been steep, but not for payroll, HR, or benefits because Gusto has taken care of all of it! It was such a relief come take time to know that payroll taxes were appropriately set aside.

Gusto is the GOAT.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Gusto in my small business for employee-managed time tracking, running payroll, and both onboarding and offboarding employees. I can do ALL those functions — and more — quickly and easily in their intuitive platform. If I ever need help, Gusto support is always responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. The value for the price is also excellent.

Pros

  • Time tracking.
  • On and offboarding.
  • Running payroll.
  • Worker's compensation.
  • HR regulatory compliance.

Cons

  • Better health insurance quotes and integration, including state-level marketplace plans.
  • Option to auto run payroll.

Likelihood to Recommend

Gusto makes it EASY to run the otherwise time-consuming and tedious HR and payroll functions that need to happen in my small business. It surpasses every other platform in terms of ease of use and value. I use a variety of different tech tools and platforms, and I recommend Gusto to every entrepreneur friend of mine because it's that good. I would highly recommend it for small businesses that need these kinds of tasks taken off their plate. It probably doesn't make sense if your organization has a dedicated HR employee.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Gusto to run payroll, reports and onboard new hires. It addresses problems related to manual payroll processing, compliance, and efficiency in HR operations. My organization uses Gusto for all employees, both full-time and part-time, as well as contractors. Gusto automates payroll, reducing the time and effort required for manual calculations and tax filings.

Pros

  • payroll
  • reports
  • onboarding new employees

Cons

  • Streamlined Workflow

Likelihood to Recommend

Started Gusto after using quickbooks for years. Gusto is so much simpler to use and run reports. There customer service is also quick and helpful. Gusto helps my organization with payroll, benefits administration, and HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, and talent management.

Gusto is a game changer

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We run payroll in two states, house employee documents, have integrated benefits of our choosing, and use the time tracking feature which saves hours of work each month. Additionally, Gusto makes it easy to file payroll taxes and operate in multiple states. I have no concern to continue growing at the rate we have and expanding into more states knowing that Gusto will be there to support us.

Pros

  • Integrate benefits
  • Time tracking
  • housing documents

Cons

  • Customize permissions. I would love to give managers permissions to change pay for the people that report to them at annual reviews (but without seeing what other managers and those they report to make).
  • Making signatures mandatory. If someone doesn't sign a document, continue sending it.

Likelihood to Recommend

For anyone apprehensive to payroll tasks and filing forms I think Gusto is a great fit. From 6 employees in one state to over 70 in two states we have grown with the support of Gusto. The only time I could think that Gusto is not appropriate would be for a small company that has a payroll expert on staff. Even then, in my opinion, the investment in Gusto is worth it!
