D&B Finance Analytics offers a lot of data but there's a cost

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

D&B Finance Analytics is used as a primary source for making credit decisions and monitoring the health of our clients.

Pros

  • Compiles a large pool of data from multiple industries
  • Provides a nice format for reading the data
  • Customer support is relatively responsive

Cons

  • Reliability of Data is suspect with multiple records for the same company and missing or contradictory information within.
  • Pursuing and incentivizing both self reporting and creditor reporting - data is often outdated or missing
  • Consistency between tools often charts and details do not match

Return on Investment

  • D&B Finance Analytics provides us with a standard on which to base our decisions which reduces processing time.
  • Erroneous information has caused delays or inaccurate decisions and as a result lost business. The lack or reliability has caused us to add new secondary verification steps and look for supplemental report providers (additional costs)

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were transferred to the D&B Finance Analytics product after using D&B Credit for years. The implementation did not go well primarily because our rep was not forthcoming as to the new pricing, but they have tried to work through that for us and the reports themselves are quite comprehensive and helpful.

Pros

  • Provides industry specific payment experiences
  • Provide insight into recent and predicted delinquency
  • In some cases, can provide info regarding suits, liens and judgments
  • Appreciate getting DBT for last 24, 12 and 3 months plus the most recent 3 months. This helps me evaluated trends and ebbs/flows in the prospect's business.

Cons

  • I would like them to return to charging us only for the reports we pull each year. This RUM thing in not fair pricing
  • Do not like any data included in the report that is not submitted by verified credit sources that submit their whole files. Do not want customer provided references included unless D&B identifies them as such.
  • Need to work on getting more financials from the companies in your database. Having only the public ones, does not assist as we can pull them very easily from other sources.

Return on Investment

  • Reduced DSO
  • Allows us tp service our clients quickly
  • Alert are helpful to see changes in our customer immediately

Excellent and Deep Credit Analysis

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our primary use is to qualify new or reactivated customers, to review existing customers and to provide background data for us to use in collections or legal proceedings. We run probably 2-300 D&B reports weekly, sometimes more, and this refers only to domestic and Canadian customers. I don't have metrics for Europe or other regions.

The D&B information is our first line of analysis and is absolutely critical to determining creditworthiness. We also pursue trade references as well as LOC's when needed, but D&B information is our go-to at the beginning of the credit review.

Pros

  • Detailed analysis of company conditions
  • Quantification and classification of metrics
  • Background on the customer

Cons

  • Updates on smaller firms are often spotty, and often we're notified or find out about substantial changes (e.g., location, management, et al., well before these turn up in their report.
  • It would be nice to have forms automatically submitted when the return key is used; this is a nice shortcut instead of mousing over to the Submit button, and was present in earlier iterations.
  • The ability to tailor automatic sign-outs. Often I'm working on a specific customer, and I go back to start another a few minutes later, and find myself logged out. Automatic sign-outs were for a longer time span previously.

Return on Investment

  • Reducing risk by pointing out potential issues at the outset
  • Hard quantification of certain metrics, in particular the Paydex stat, as well as failure and delinquency likelihood.
  • Assists with lowering DSO (sorry, no hard figures available) by letting us know when there is a potential issue from the beginning, or when we update our records.
