Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or XenDesktop) is a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and application virtualization solution from Citrix.

The High Price for Convenience.

My organization uses Citrix DaaS as our remote desktop tool. It allows our team to push updates and control the environment our staff work on/in from any computer, personal or business. It can be deployed on-prem or in the cloud. We leverage a mixture of cloud + on-prem for best service results.

Pros

  • Desktop Isolation.
  • User flexibility, accessing data from any device.
  • Easily scale up and down.
  • Maintenance

Cons

  • The ability to run webinars and virtual meetings from within DaaS.
  • Recently, support has been lacking.
  • Licensing is very high.
  • Mobile device experience.

Return on Investment

  • When users break or lose their computers, DaaS keeps their desktops the same regardless of the device they connect with.
  • DaaS cloud has had some outages recently that's had a negative affect.
  • Troubleshooting can take dedication, as Citrix points at everything besides its product.

In our company, we need Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops as a must since a lot of users work remotely and with this great tool, they are able to log in remotely to their desktops and other applications too. Since our company grew fast in the last years we needed such tool to go ahead with our growth. The connection is secure and this was one of the requirements for the software purchase.

  • Linux installation.
  • Support cases some time take long time to solve.
  • Ideal for large companies.

  • Relaxation of the IT department troubleshooting individual users.
  • Between Office and Home Office there is no difference.

I use Citrix desktop for more than 7 years now, from previous company adopted all user PC using Citrix desktop to manage backend IT perspective to now in my current company use it as some of the application + a few virtual desktops for someone who needs to get in the network with their own computer, Citrix has been trouble free easy to use solution for us.

  • Mobility, any where, any computer
  • easy to use
  • not much computer resource required

Cons

  • file sharing from local PC to the citrix laptop or application
  • better mobile app, for iPad users
  • Audio and Video optimization can improve

  • fast connection
  • secure, and track all intellectual doc
  • simple userface

  • Considering the amount of expensive laptop to purchase for some company it's great option and ROI.
  • Web-based applications are great to save software licenses as well where it allows user to access web servers to use the same app.

We use Citrix Virtual Apps as the hub for all online operations. It is our gateway to access all of our software, data, user applications, and shared drives. We rely heavily on Citrix Virtual Apps for our day-to-day work, as without it, we are unable to process much of anything through the course of the day.

Citrix Virtual Apps is currently used globally, In the United States, England, France, Germany, Japan, India, Australia, and China. Citrix Virtual Apps provides secure remote access for contractors and consultants who need to work in remote environments. It has alleviated the need for access globally and provides access for users outside of the local regions. We have been able to provide secure access to desktops, and applications regardless of the proximity of their location. We have been using the product for the past ten years and with the Covid-19 pandemic, also provided a means for additional users to work securely from home. Today we have Citrix environments in the cloud as well as on-premise datacenters. We have migrated away from using VPN because Citrix Virtual Apps is more scalable and configurable.

  • Configurable to provide read only access to a desktop or application.
  • Allows for apply Citrix and AD group policies for secure and enhanced access.

  • More built in reporting from Citrix Director.
  • Easier to manage and upgrade Virtual Delivery Agents.
  • Enhance the Citrix Gateway interface on the NetScaler.
  • Make it easier to customize the Citrix Gateway UI dashboard.

Return on Investment

  • Carefully scaled implementations have managed the the total cost.
  • Providing access to users worldwide has been the biggest ROI.
  • Quick implementations of new environments have made the product worth the value.
