Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

Provides daily backups of our entire VMware environment. Also, do hourly transaction log backups of our critical databases. Provides automated management of on-site and off-site backups for reliability and disaster recovery.

Pros

  • Integrates smoothly with our off-site data store.
  • Reliable data backup and restore.
  • Ease of management.
  • Excellent notification levels for critical and non-critical failures in the backups.

Cons

  • A clearer description of the backup infrastructure.
  • Easier reporting on which backup job is backing up which server.
  • Prevent the creation of multiple backup repositories to a single destination.
  • Great ROI. Backups are done with minimal intervention.
  • Low manpower is needed to perform backups and restores.
  • Able to give rights to users to restore their own environments and easy to use interface.
Veeam is the easiest to manage of these products. They were the first to provide server replication in the VM environment.

Fantastic speed for backing up data to our protected storage. Being able to use the same job for both on-site and off-site storage ensures that we consistently achieve the correct backup levels for our data. Veeam is excellent for data replication for an off-site disaster recovery site. Keeping the data synced between the sites with minimal effort. Veeam struggles with some vendors doing backups of live databases. This may be a problem with the vendor versus Veeam.
