Overall Satisfaction with TriNet

From my experience and that of colleagues, I believe TriNet is the best PEO in the country. If not for occasional payroll mix-ups, I'd give TriNet a 10.
TriNet has been particularly helpful providing HR support in dealing with situations such as disability accommodation, FMLA, and terminations, including severance agreements. Having clear processes and vetted forms/letters for communication with employees in these situations has been very helpful.
The on-boarding and open enrollment processes are very easy to use and save our HR staff significant time. The technology platform used by employees promotes self-service because of its great design, including clear instructions and links to related materials.
The employee interface is very good, the HR/benefits usability is also good. As previously mentioned the payroll platform brings down the score.
We use TriNet HR Passport for payroll and benefits management across the whole organization. We do not use any add on services. Using TriNet makes it possible to have employees in multiple states without having to become an expert in a new state's employment laws and to offer an array of benefits with one stop shopping.

Pros

  • Our human capital consultant is fabulous and we benefit from her expertise when addressing complex employee relations issues. She provides great customer service - is responsive and thoughtful and serves as our liaison to TriNet as a whole.
  • I appreciate the extent to which TriNet leadership not only listens to client feedback but actively incorporates it into decision making and then reports back on steps taken.
  • TriNet provides good communication about HR developments, such as changes in the law.
  • TriNet engages clients through events, such as luncheon panel presentations.

Cons

  • The payroll system is not as easy to use as competitors (ADP and Paychoice). Reporting is more cumbersome.
  • TriNet's payroll processes involve layers of TriNet employee review and changes are sometimes made with out consulting our payroll staff person. Conversely, often we as the client may communicate clear instructions for handling special or final payroll and find that those instructions have been ignored, resulting in payment errors. Resolution of errors can sometimes involve several steps on the client's part.
  • TriNet needs to do a better job at advertising value added features, such as training and employment law resources. TriNet offers a lot of great resources but you have to look for them.
  • Being able to offer a wide array of quality benefits to employees in multiple states helps to distinguish our organization as an employer. TriNet stregthens our image as a sophisticated, well run organization and that standard promotes a high performing organizational culture.
  • TriNet simplifies benefits management with one-stop shopping, saving both employees and HR staff significant time and effort.
We previously used ADP Total Source and our HR Director has experience with Insperity. ADP Total Source functioned more like a payroll service and we did not find much value in HR and benefits services. We have a very limited relationship with ADP staff and got very little attention. Trying to find the right person to communicate with about an issue was challenging. Costs were buried with other fringe items so we had a hard time figuring out how much we were paying for services. Our dissatisfaction with ADP led us to do extensive research on other PEOs and TriNet not only offered the best price, but had a completely different customer services model. Our transition went smoothly and we immediately saw a difference in our interactions with TriNet staff, with whom we have built effective working relationships. We get so much more support now from TriNet than with ADP and see them as a true partner, who knows us and our unique needs.
TriNet is well suited where an organization can afford to pay for service and doesn't have the in-house capacity or in cases where the client can afford to pay for a more sophisticated HR platform and provide a greater array of benefits. I have often recommended TriNet to colleagues who have employees in multiple states.
TriNet is less appropriate where there are a lot of part-time, benefits ineligible employees because the per employee cost would be prohibitive and there is not as much value without the benefits piece.
