Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer
TeamViewer is used to connect to computing resources on the internal network in order to access IT resources not published to the Internet. It is used primarily by the IT department. We also use it to provide remote support to end-points and users as and when needed. TeamViewer is easy to set up and can group resources where VPN is not an option.
Pros
- Reliable for always on-access, where VPN is not an option.
- MFA at login provides additional security.
- Random password one-time password makes accidental access harder.
Cons
- Remote control is not very refined.
- Tighter integration with windows security standards to make remote control useful.
- Session recording could be improved.
- TeamViewer has allowed us to provide remote support easily.
- Cost for a license is not exorbitant, even for SME.
- Does not replace the security of a VPN solution as it still involved going through a 3rd party.
- External/Vendor support is easily provided through TeamViewer.
- Zoom and GoToMeeting
TeamViewer has been around a lot longer than the alternatives and has provided a consistent experience. The improvements on the security front are welcome and necessary in the current environment. Not sure if making TeamViewer a full collaboration platform will help it to stand out from the competition who have slicker interfaces and regular updates.
