In conjunction with automation, it is used to manage backup servers and continuously update contingency plans in the event of a significant network disaster, when recovery is necessary. The platform addresses the scalability issue we've had in the past. Using automation, routine tasks and workflows are completed faster to enhance operational efficiency. The scope encompasses personnel data and specific financial data.
Pros
Strong customer support and helpful user community.
Scalability
Extensive features for flexibility.
Friendly user interface.
Cons
Learning curve can be a challenge.
Cost for smaller scopes a bit high.
Some features paid for, not used.
Likelihood to Recommend
Smaller scopes for more specialized tasks and solutions should be extensively considered to see if a more cost-effective solution is available. We overhauled a division, and the platform allowed for a seamless transition for a large number of employees. A large amount of data protection needs across a wide range of platforms and environments were addressed and rectified.
Provides daily backups of our entire VMware environment. Also, do hourly transaction log backups of our critical databases. Provides automated management of on-site and off-site backups for reliability and disaster recovery.
Pros
Integrates smoothly with our off-site data store.
Reliable data backup and restore.
Ease of management.
Excellent notification levels for critical and non-critical failures in the backups.
Cons
A clearer description of the backup infrastructure.
Easier reporting on which backup job is backing up which server.
Prevent the creation of multiple backup repositories to a single destination.
Likelihood to Recommend
Fantastic speed for backing up data to our protected storage. Being able to use the same job for both on-site and off-site storage ensures that we consistently achieve the correct backup levels for our data. Veeam is excellent for data replication for an off-site disaster recovery site. Keeping the data synced between the sites with minimal effort. Veeam struggles with some vendors doing backups of live databases. This may be a problem with the vendor versus Veeam.

We utilize Veeam Backup & Replication for all our business-critical backup requirements. The backups are quick and easy to restore, and I have trained new team members on restoration in just a few minutes.
Pros
SQL Database backups.
Backup Copies.
Data replication to a secondary data center.
Cons
The data access pause when backing up an SQL database could be improved.
Better integration to allow VMware data sources to replicate to Azure and not just copy.
Integrated off-site immutable backups.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is ideal for a dual data center environment, allowing for replication. Replication to Azure is an issue.
Veeam is great! It's super easy to configure backups, and even easier to restore files or entire vm's when there's an issue. It saves a significant amount of time that was previously spent managing backups and handling restores, which can now be allocated to other tasks. I am a fan, and will continue to use Veeam in the future.
Pros
Backups
Full machine restore.
Individual file restores.
Cons
Too many alerts.
The workflow could be simplified.
It could use an updated look.
Likelihood to Recommend
When a user has deleted something from a shared drive, there is no easy way to recover it. There is no recycle bin for shared drives, so anything deleted is permanently gone. Without Veeam, it would be a lengthy process involving multiple third-party software applications to attempt file restoration. With Veeam, it is fast and easy.

In my opinion and experience, the setup is very confusing. There are too many steps, locations, etc., to enter simple data such as an Azure storage account. Backup from one storage account to another is not supported. Entra ID backup does not restore the Object ID, leaving orphaned Object IDs when someone is assigned permissions to an object in Azure. Veeam performs backups, but it isn't very clear to set up and requires two virtual machines to back up Azure, versus having an online cloud platform.
Pros
Backup once setup is completed.
Cons
Provide a cloud option for cloud only organizations.
Backup all metadata with Entra ID so object ID can be restored.
Make setup and maintenance less confusing.
Likelihood to Recommend
Again, the setup is less than easy to do. There are too many areas where items need to be created or maintained. It's an issue for people who don't use Veeam on a daily basis.

Veeam Data Platform is used to back up our in-office servers, including AD, Security Camera Storage, and internal application servers. Prior to Veeam Data Platform, we had no method of backing up these servers. By utilizing Veeam Data Platform, we can be assured that we have adequate backups of vital servers that help our company run day-to-day.
Pros
Manage number of backups (number of fulls vs. incremental)
Easy to deploy
Easy to maintain
Likelihood to Recommend
I've not seen any scenarios where Veeam Data Platform would be less appropriate. For what we use Veeam Data Platform for, I am quite happy with the effort of maintenance needed (extremely low), ease of setup (extremely easy to do), and overall have had a very positive experience. Setting up Hyper-V backups was extremely simple (basically point and click) and we've not had any issues with the backups since starting.

In our organization, we use Veeam Data Platform primarily for data protection, disaster recovery, and business continuity. The platform supports our on-premises, cloud, and hybrid IT infrastructure by providing reliable and secure backup and recovery. Veeam Data Platform enables us to recover data quickly in the event of accidental deletion, hardware failure, ransomware attacks, or natural disasters to reduces potential downtime and data loss. ALso the platform helps us meet regulatory requirements like FERPA by keeping student records safe
Pros
Backup Recovery
Daily Backups
Data Security
Cons
Integrate M365 backup more into the main Veeam Data Platform console.
Improve search and restore performance for large Exchange or SharePoint backups
Likelihood to Recommend
Good Use: Virtual Environments, M365 Environments or more specifically Microsoft Windows environments since this is so pushed towards Windows
Bad use: IoT environments since there is minimal storage that needs backed up. Mac or Linux environments since this is mainly windows based and Mac is very limitedly supported. A lot of schools have Both windows and Mac environments

We use it for vmware backup and replication for all test and production servers. The biggest business problem Veeam Data Platform solves for us is the ability to automatically backup/replicate virtual machines on a schedule without the need to manually delete them. For us, we do daily backups and replicate every 3-4 hours, depending on what kind of server it is (test, production) and how critical the server is.
Pros
Backup retention
Incremental backups
Instant recovery
Cons
File level restore seems to be too slow to be efficient
Jobs fail sometimes due to proxy unavailability even though there is no jobs running
Sometimes replicas get lost during storage
Likelihood to Recommend
We utilize OTV between multiple data centers. The biggest benefit is when we need to failover due to disaster recovery/business continuity testing purposes. In the event one site is not available due to outages, we can simply turn on the virtual machine (as is) from any other site and retain the same IP address and configuration. This is possible because we replicate Veeam Data Platform every 3-4 hours, so data is never truly 'state'.

We use Veeam Data Platform to protect all of our major servers. Currently we have M365 on a hybrid configuration with Exchange, and Veeam Data Platform saved us when my Exchange server crashed. We also use Veeam Data Platform to back up our main SQL databases and application servers. Again Veeam Data Platform saved us when a developer made a mistake on our most important SQL server and I was able to replace the table that had been corrupted.
Pros
Backups are very easy to setup
Restoring is as simple as it can be
Setting up the backups is also very simple
Setting your own retention policies
Cons
To be honest apart from some initial hiccups
I can not see any room for improvement for Veeam Data Platform
It is the best backup and recovery software I have used in my 35 years of working in IT
Likelihood to Recommend
As I said previously Veeam Data Platform is very simple to setup, including retention policies etc. It runs very smoothly, only issues I ever had with Veeam Data Platform was when my NAS device was updated I had to go into Veeam Data Platform to fix it until I found the permanent solution for this. Since then it has run perfectly
