Slack functions as a primary internal communication platform, enabling seamless interaction and collaboration for teams, particularly in remote and distributed environments. In TrustRadius reviews, users leverage it for direct messages, group channels, and organizing discussions by topic. Its robust integration capabilities are a key strength, with 39% of reviewers highlighting their value for streamlining workflows and centralizing notifications.
While enhancing communication speed and efficiency, reviewers frequently note challenges with search functionality, with 19% citing difficulties finding older messages. Thread management can also be clunky, and notification systems are often overwhelming. Despite these points, the platform generally delivers a positive ROI by boosting productivity and reducing email clutter, though some raise concerns about subscription costs.

Effective audio and video communication via Huddles for real-time interaction
Structured organization of discussions through dedicated channels
Improved communication speed and overall efficiency
Significant reduction in internal email clutter
Cons

Overwhelming and insufficiently configurable notification systems
Occasional audio problems and instability with Huddles
Concerns regarding subscription costs and license management
We use it to structure our communication and find all relevant communication in specific places. We use Slack channels per projects, we bookmark important links in the channels, we use the canvas to keep notes and talking points for the specific teams or projects we're working on and it's also useful to be able to go back to previous projects and see what the conversations were about.
Pros
Structured the communication
Group relevant things together and help communicate with the teams
Automated communications
Integration with other relevant apps
Cons
It's hard to keep the Slack channels clean
Lack of video call and online workspace apps integration
Likelihood to Recommend
Organize your communication streams like keeping discussions of projects in specific channels and such. This helps avoids emails and keeps everything in one place. You can also add external people on certain channels to keep things focused and relevant.

We communicate with cross-departmental teams, management, and outside contractors on various tech, content, and marketing projects.
Pros
Channels allow focussed interactions
Channels maintain a history of interactions and shared resources
Is a much better project communication tool than email
Cons
The "catch up" feature on mobile would be good to have on desktop. We need to see what we've missed in one place.
Would like to see better alignment between mobil and desktop apps. We all use both.

We are a startup with many simultaneous, cross-departmental projects. Project management software would be too cumbersome for us, but Slack works well in this case.
We use Slack for our internal communication. It allows us to form various groups and I quite like the interface. I like it because it is not really formal and I heavily use the various emojis it offers! In a nutshell , Slack allows me keep my formal communication informal and I love it!
Pros
Group forming
Emojis
Cons
Forwarding option
Multiple times to edit the message sent
Likelihood to Recommend
It is suited for keep formal communication, informal. It is suited for people who like to use emojis to express their thoughts too! I quite like the various groups it allows to be created with ease. The integration of other apps helps to keep a tab and connect with them easily
Slack is the main platform for communication within the company. We used it for general chat, direct messaging and sharing announcements, as well as specific channels for smaller groups. Getting answers to questions regarding work is quick and easy and it's a great way to get lots of people collaborating.
Pros
Notifications are handled really well so you don't miss anything coming in.
Channels work really well with permissions allowing you to only let people that should have access to something have access.
Addons are a nice addition that allows for further functionality.
Cons
The search bar could have clearer filters
The direct message list could be adjustable so that you can quickly access contacts that you want to have to hand.
Likelihood to Recommend
Group collaboration works really well. A problem can be posted and multiple people can see it and address it quickly. The 'now typing' feature also means you know when someone else is working on an answer.
We use Slack for our small business for two main reasons. The first is day to day communication within our internal team to stay out of the inbox but still communicate and get things done. The second is with our external teams, which include an ad agency and an intregrator. It allows for quick, streamlined communication that is more effective than texting or online chat spaces but less bulky than an email in the inbox or a phone call or Zoom meeting.
Pros
Easy to use
Search tool
Channels
Cons
User experience/design

In general, this is great for any kind of team. Whether it's your in house people or out of house people. You can have different channels for each, plus different channels for each project or topic or theme. You can also DM on the platform privately to someone, too.
My department uses Slack as our primary communication tool. We use it to send direct messages, announcements, and group messages to other team members in the department. We have several channels set up for different functions in our department to keep conversations organized. We also use Slack to share photos and resources among team members.
Pros
Slack allows us to keep conversations organized and categorized with Channels
Slack offers extensive customization per user (different themes, channel and DM organization, notification options)
Slack has a user friendly interface that is easy to navigate and learn
Cons
In the past, sometimes I didn't receive audio notifications when I received a message. I don't seem to have that issue anymore, though.
More GIF options would be a nice touch!
Sometimes, it's hard to tell if the "Snooze notifications" feature is working in accordance with my active hours. I don't always see the three z's when I'm outside of my active hours.

I think Slack is great for teams who have several projects and need to keep topics organized while keeping everyone in the loop. There is also an option to exclude users from specific channels, which is great for coordinating surprises and gifts.
I don't think Slack would be useful in lieu of an email service provider. I also think it works better for small teams rather than organization-wide.
Slack is pivotal in our company's communication ecosystem. It's the go-to platform for inter-team dialogues, cross-departmental collaborations, and one-on-one exchanges. Given our remote-first policy, Slack serves as our virtual office, enabling interaction regardless of geographical boundaries, and promoting a well-connected and productive work environment, across many different time zones and teams.
Pros
Team messaging
Quick file sharing
Scheduling messages
Apps and integrations
Cons
Open audio spaces
Instant channel creation
Temporary data chats
Likelihood to Recommend
Slack excels in facilitating team collaboration, offering seamless file sharing and bridging communication across diverse platforms. However, it might not be the ideal choice for sensitive data sharing or handling excessively large files. In such cases, opting for more secure or specialized platforms could be a better idea to ensure confidentiality and efficiency.
I use Slack multiple times per day, everyday in my daily work life. I use it to communicate internally with my teammates. I use both channels and direct messages to communicate with others. It is actually the main mode of digital communication at our company internally, even moreso than email.
Pros
User friendly
Visually appealing
quick and easy emoji reactions
able to upload your own emojis
easy to use
easy to add and invite others
Cons
I would like to be able to change themes or colours
I would like to be able to have 10 people in a DM as opposed to just 8
Likelihood to Recommend
Best used for small or large organizations. I find it most successful in more modern or technology focused workforces. For example, I could not imagine an older and established oil company using Slack. It is great for having channels for people with specific interests or tasks. I also like that you can integrate other applications with Slack, including Zoom, Google Drive, and Slackbot.
Alerts necessary stakeholders when certain business processes take place
Increases asynchronous collaboration between remote teams. Acts as the main source of internal communication reducing emails. Increased visibility to schedules across teams. Allows for consistent communication across multiple verticals.
Pros
Integrations with other apps.
Ability to focus communication to certain stakeholders while maintaining visibility to others.
Forwarding of important messages to other stakeholders!
Cons
Searching within multiple slack channels can sometimes be difficult. Pinning is helpful, but sometimes hard to follow.
Is there an option to work on documentation together - that would be nice!
Channel management sometimes is overwhelming a tough
Likelihood to Recommend
Well suited for asynchronous comms to teams who all have varying schedules. I love the new functionality where you can add a new person to an existing chat and share/forward a chat with other.
Not appropriate for information that needs to be saved or recorded. Not appropriate for formal communication to teams. Not appropriate for collaboration with external users.

I work at a university and our department uses Slack to decrease the number of emails in our inboxes. We use it to post work status updates, share news stories relevant to our work, connect with colleagues (both on-campus and remote employees), encourage collaboration, and more. If there's something that is meant to be a quick opportunity for discussion and collaboration, it goes on Slack. Otherwise, larger projects or messages that require more consideration, still go through email.
Pros
Encourages collaboration
Organizes discussions into customizable channels
Provides a robust private messaging tool
Cons
There could be more app integrations available, and an easier way to connect the apps that are available.
A better way to flag messages and come back to them later would be helpful.
I'd love an easier way to mute certain types of messages within a channel.
Likelihood to Recommend
Slack is great for quick messages and updates where back-and-forth communication is needed. For example, we use it to share relevant news articles, brainstorm ideas for social media, wordsmith headlines and email subjects, private messaging, and more. It is less useful when there are larger discussions on a topic that need to be have or for when specific requests are being made. For example, I don't find it helpful to use Slack for official project requests or discussions that require more thought or research before responding. There isn't a great way to flag messages to come back to later, so email is still a better spot for those kinds of things.
