Skyword is a great one-stop shop for providing all of a contributor's needs for an assignment and aligns companies with the writers who have the appropriate expertise.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Skyword as a freelance contributor. I have been commissioned by the Skyword team to write articles and reports for their clients across a couple of programmes. One was for Radial, a former eBay enterprise company, and one was for MasterCard. Phillips Lighting was due to be another client but the content they required did not span my area of expertise, which is retail.

Pros

  • It provides a good structure re timelines ie it's really clear how long you have to work on any given assignment, once accepted. You also receive handy reminder emails that your deadline is approaching in xx hours for instance.
  • It's good for being able to access the brief and any ancillary notes/reports all in one location rather than have to deal with multiple emails and downloads from other sources. It's a bit like a one-stop shop for a journalist's brief/commissions.
  • The set up for uploading content is well organised and helps in the planning stage for articles. The various sections required help ensure you stick tightly to the given brief.

Cons

  • It would be useful to see historical versions of copy that you have uploaded rather than the latest, edited version.
  • In some programmes the rules are a bit too prescriptive ie set word counts with not too much variance. Similarly, sometimes you have to almost 'shoe horn' key words into the copy in order to hit the number required. This can make the text sound repetitive and less creative journalistically.
  • Not quite sure what the readability scores bring to the party?

Likelihood to Recommend

It's a great platform for freelance writers to use because everything - the brief, deadline, notes, edits along the way etc, are all in one handy location; which is easy to access.

It's great to get picked up by one client, following the recommendation of another too. It's almost like a networking site in this respect too, where companies get matched or paired with the right writers.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SkyWord to help manage our B2B content development. They manage our content site, The Benefits Guide, for us, and source a great deal of educational content for us, from articles to infographics to videos. It's used specifically for the B2B team to target our employer audience. It helps us create a rich experience for employers to discover more about issues that affect them - from health care to HR to building their business.

Pros

  • Creating a lot of content quickly and efficiently
  • Identifying new and important topics and content areas to explore
  • Providing timely and helpful account service

Cons

  • They run all content through their platform, which could use a UX upgrade and also they should consider not requiring clients to use their proprietary platform at all times
  • They should improve capability with apps/mobile

Likelihood to Recommend

SkyWord is well-suited for companies beginning or increasing their content marketing initiative. Companies with a more sophisticated content marketing approach or who have their own content platform or use another vendor's platform may encounter some issues.

In general, SkyWord has proven to be an adaptable company that I believe most brands could find a lot of value from.
