Shopify functions as a core e-commerce platform, enabling organizations to establish and manage an online retail presence. Reviewers leverage it for comprehensive operational management, including order processing, payments, and inventory, often integrating with backend systems via its API. In TrustRadius reviews, its user-friendly interface and extensive customization options are frequently highlighted, simplifying daily tasks and allowing for unique branding.
The platform also offers a robust ecosystem of plugins and strong support. However, a quarter of reviewers express frustration with additional costs for essential features, often requiring plugin purchases, and note limitations in core functionalities like complex operations or bulk editing. Despite these cost and feature concerns, Shopify generally contributes to increased web sales and operational efficiency, though extensive integrations can raise monthly expenses.
Pros
User-friendly interface and simple UI
Extensive customization options with templates and personal editing
Robust plugin and integration ecosystem with verified applications and flexible API
Strong support and reliability, including responsive support and consistent uptime
Comprehensive analytics and reporting features within the administrative interface
Cons
Additional costs for essential features often requiring plugin purchases
Limitations in core functionality for complex tasks or detailed discount management
Occasional user interface issues, such as freezing or difficulties with content updates
Lack of advanced native tools for user-generated content and social proof
Increased monthly expenses associated with extensive integrations
Shopify is a super user-friendly customizable option to create a storefront as in our case to sell a limited quantity of items. We use this only occasionally across the entire organization as we are working to figure out a storefront as we go. However, our experience has been extremely positive and we believe this solves a lot of the issues we were looking for!
Pros
Shopify has a super user-friendly interface! It doesn't require any knowledge of coding or back-end writing. Love that anyone in our organization can use it without that special knowledge.
You can manually input products to sell easily, or you can import them which is great if you have a lengthy offering!
We love how professional the final quality of items look once they are posted. It is an intuitive app that helps adjust photography, cropping, and alignment for a cohesive and professional appearance.
Cons
You can't create sub-categories for your products which is a bummer if you have several items under one category of you product. This also makes it a bit more difficult for people to find what they are searching for if you have several items but can't sub categorize.
The URL isn't completely customizable which is an issue if you aren't embedding the app in your website or it bothers you that your brand may not look completely cohesive if re-directing to the shopify site.
You have to pay for the highest level of the app to get access to advance reporting. This isn't an issue if you are dealing with a relatively simple storefront and basic reporting.

Shopify has a lot of great features to suit beginners and professionals alike! It is a great fit for almost everyone. Perhaps the "variant" limit of 3 per item might be an issue if you are trying to sell several more colors or variations of one product. Overall, This is a great product for almost all users!
Shopify, combined with Custom Cat and Printful provide our private school system with an advertising avenue not previously afforded. We are now able to offer multiple designs in a multitude of colors, sizes, and styles without the overhead of having inventory. Everyone that orders become a walking, talking, and actionable billboard for the schools with almost no overhead or volunteering.
Pros
Easy templates to provide straight forward, simple to use UI for customers.
Works with integrated APPs to allow for 3rd party fulfillment.
Cons
Inputting new products can be time consuming because all categories have to be built by hand.
Price changes can be time consuming because you can only change by product, not by style.

Shopify is great for bigger e-commerce or a company with a small SKU count. I wouldn't recommend it to a company with thousands of SKUs, they should look at a more robust system. Shopify does not provide a robust reporting system and even the less expensive apps don't provide valuable information. However, it fits our small non-profit needs with its price and ease of use.
We're currently using shopify to sell apparel and our founder's new book. We use it to sell everything and it easily allows us to print and prepare packages thru purchasing postage right on their website. We can also work with a fulfillment service to handle all of our book orders, which cuts down on staff time and increases efficiency.
Pros
Easy to use software for adding products as well as building a website. Fairly customizable too.
Great customer service. Very quick response time.
Powerful and can handle lots of orders at once. I've heard of other weaker e-commerce sites crashing, but never Shopify.
Cons
I wish there was some more features offered in their website builder.
I think in the navigation, there are so many options, it may be better to condense them and also make it easier to get to your website editor.
Pricing is slightly high for a store that doesn't have a huge number of products.

Shopify is great for our apparel and book sales because we were able to create our whole store for free through Shopify. This store does what we need, but we would like some features to be more customizable. However, it's great to have something we can quickly update and is extremely user-friendly to change as necessary.
I am a reseller of the product. I implemented it for the first time on a website that offers classes and products. They previously had ZenCart. Shopify is far superior.
Pros
The layout in the administrator area is very well done. It's easy to figure out what you want to do.
Adding, managing and deleting products is very simple. Uploading pictures for products goes very fast.
For a developer, there was unlimited possibilities to implement new design. The liquid templates are very easy to configure.
Cons
With the basic Shopify, I find it so easy to use I would be hard pressed to think of any improvements.
What I would like to see is a better Booking app. Book that App was very complicated at first for my client. She still has to call now and then to remember how to do something.

As a webdesigner, I loved working with Shopify. I much prefer it over any of the shopping carts I've used. That's why I became a reseller. If any client wants a shopping cart, this is what I want to recommend.
