Use Cases and Deployment Scope

System to system integration, both event based and bulk loads using Open Connectors.

SAP Integration Suite is one of the main cloud to cloud and cloud to premise integration tools. Lately we have also started using open connector APIs to expose as source systems in datasphere to compensate for the limitations of Hana SDA/SDI capabilities.

Difficult to setup custom open connector to Odats or Restful APIs

Well integrated to other SAP offerings like SAP ecc/s4 and Datasphere.

SAP Data Suite offers a comprehensive solution for managing enterprise data, especially in an SAP content with other BTP solutions.

Integration to SAP Datasphere works out of the box to enhance connectivity and governance. With built-in security, scalability, and flexible integrations, SAP Data Suite is well suited and has much wider uses than CPI-DS which seems to be left as an incomplete replacement for business objects data services.

As a successor of SAP PI/PO. mainly when there is pre-packaged content or use of adapters and features that are not available in SAP Pi/Po e.g. API Manager, AS4 protocol.

The Integration Suite and primarily CPI is used for integration between SAP SuccessFactors and other SAP/non-SAP applications. These applications are - SAP ERP for Finance and custom ERP for Logistics management processes. Compared to other middleware solutions like Boomi, the flexibility is limited, but it works best with SAP backends.

SAP Integration Suite is used to integrate SAP applications with SAP and non-SAP applications. It is used to integrate SuccessFactors with SAP HCM and SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud with other S/4HANA on-premises systems. Further it used to integrate S/4HANA Finance with Coupa e-Procurement and Clarity PPM. We used it also to read data an provide it as files to different consumers.

Enterprise readiness is missing as current role concept does not allow to differentiate roles for distinct development artifacts between admins and developers especially for API management.
SAP Event Mesh artifacts cannot be transported with SAP Cloud Transport Management
SAP BPA - Business Rules Engine (Decisions) has limitation to use is it for mass processing of data
Dashboard for fine grained reporting of consumption of different consumers is missing which is a required for larger Enterprises to share the costs.
Current tenant model is inflexible, there is no basic license for non-production environment.

Likelihood to Recommend

SAP Integration Suite is well suited for process integration. It is not the right tool for data integration also due to the license metric.

We use SAP Integration Suite for all our middleware requirements. B2B, A2A. We have around 500+ interfaces with SAP ECC/S4 and many other applications. SAP BTP-SAP Integration Suite is our choice of middleware for all our future middleware requirements while implementing S4/HANA private cloud.

All interfaces in SAP-PI will be re-engineered into SAP Integration Suite.

Cons

Reprocessing of errors.
Exception handling.
Large data handling.

Data integration from traditional system to SAP Integration Suite is so easy as well as the API management is easy. Main thing what is helping is the pre-built connectors.

Comprehensive integration support which helps to interlink between various system with SAP products as well as non-SAP products.
It comes with pre-built connector which reduces the efforts of custom development of the APIs.
It has features of API management as well as data integration where real time APIs can be exposed and data exchange can be seamless.

Cons

The learning curve as because of it's complexity is the room. Where SAP Integration Suite can help developers to learn faster
It's likely to be having high cost for small and medium level enterprises.
It lack in the real time high volume data transmission from system to system.
