Ramp

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for a corporate credit card and employee reimbursements. Ramp allows for significant autonomy in both spending for very individualized needs as well as keeping with financial compliance in our organization.

Pros

  • Sync to Sage Intacct
  • Ease of spend controls and security
  • Excellent User Interface (for most users)
  • Clear Help Articles

Cons

  • The accounting side of Ramp is glitchy and difficult to use
  • Ramp Plus took away a good amount of functionality that was available to us before it was introduced

Likelihood to Recommend

Ramp is excellent for a small business! We are a little disappointed using multiple platforms (>3) which is very few compared to larger organizations, but when trying to consolidate tech resources it's challenging. Ramp is great for beleaguered finance teams, and larger orgs with more specific spend controls. We appreciate the availability of some features but don't use it to its potential.

Stellar platform with high functionality

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Ramp for both corporate card spend and for full-cycle AP processing. On the credit card side, we have been able to streamline our submission process for receipts and coding, eliminating up to 30 days from our reconciliation cycle for our corporate cards. On the AP side, we are able to process payments via a variety of methods, including physical checks, ACH payments, domestic wires, and international wires.

Pros

  • Ramp syncs to Sage Intacct smoothly, pulling dimensions in directly from the ERP.
  • Coding rules within Ramp are easy to customize, allowing for logic-based options following the path of the GL. This use of smartlists for dimensions dramatically lowers the instances of human data entry error.
  • Approval routing rules are easy to create and change as the business changes. Approvals can be based on either the user or the coding of an individual transaction depending on your business needs.
  • The out-of-office delegation function allows the approval process to continue without delays when key personnel are away on vacation.

Cons

  • Ramp frequently releases new features but doesn't notify admins of the new functionalities, often creating confusion when changes have been rolled out and are found accidentally.

Likelihood to Recommend

Ramp is incredibly useful on the corporate card side. The platform is robust and very user-friendly for card holders. The Bill Pay side is still clearly in development, but has shown dramatic improvement over the last 18 months. It's a great solution to keep your office and AP process paperless.

Ramp Does it All

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ramp to track everyday expenses, travel requests and expenses, and any other expense that staff members incur for professional development, continuing education, and other unforeseen purchases. We have approximately 22 users and are able to monitor spending by utilizing Spending Program requests and having permissions set for daily spending.

Pros

  • Ramp gives us visibility into staff spending, allowing us to monitor and set limits to avoid any overspending on unnecessary purchases.
  • Ramp makes tracking travel expenses a breeze by grouping travel spending by dates and person. This is much cleaner than our previous system, and makes my life much easier!
  • Having the ability to text receipts into Ramp as soon as a purchase is made has proven to be much more effective than our previous system of saving copies of receipts to an outside shared drive.

Cons

  • The reports options could be more customizable, and the CSV exports should be easier to clean up and save.
  • Changing travel arrangements, specifically airfare, could be a bit easier, as we have had times where we were unable to do it online and were stuck calling customer service, which took over 2 hours.

Likelihood to Recommend

Ramp is well suited for managing everyday spending. We have been able to set standard permissions across the board for our team, monitor spending easily, and adjust "allowances" accordingly and quickly. The instant funding once a request is approved makes it so much faster to make a purchase, if outside of the set parameters.
Ramp travel offerings are sometimes unattractive, and we have found many flights, hotels, and car rentals by going to other platforms or the suppliers directly. Pricing is comparable, but many times it is cheaper to book outside of Ramp.

UI Friendly, Many Tech Features

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Ramp is used for credit cards, AP processing, and employee expense reimbursements. We occasionally use it for travel booking, but that hasn't been strongly rolled out.

Pros

  • User Interface is sleek
  • API to map to accounting systems is easy to setup
  • Help support is very quick and responsive

Cons

  • They are changing their pricing and I'm not sure how much that will keep increasing. It's hard to plan them as a long term solution when that's happening.
  • Some of the updates they push aren't so UI friendly, but they are quick to change things back if it's not working well.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would have said a 10 but the recent pricing changes make it hard to strongly recommend. The product is now priced for all of the advanced features, but if you are a less sophisticated AP department, it may not be worth the price. The software is very user friendly, probably most user friendly in industry.

Ramp Review

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ramp for company expenses/reimbursements, tracking credit card usage and paying our contractors. Ramp also allows us to issue physical or virtual cards and set and edit limits immediately and seamlessly.

Pros

  • Allows us to issue company credit cards - virtual and physical
  • Sends invites to new vendors so they can upload their payment info
  • Keeps track of all our payments and reimbursements

Cons

  • Sometimes our contractors become employees, and we have to re-enter their info into Ramp. It would be nice if we could just sync the 2 accounts
  • Sometimes the search boxes don't come up with what I'm specifically searching for
  • Most recent uploads/reimbursements should be on the top of the page. Sometimes I have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the ones that need review

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall, Ramp is very helpful in keeping many tools in one place and makes it easy to pay vendors, contractors, etc. But, like anything else, it is not flawless

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are looking for a solution to improve your month-end close process, improve your expense management, enforce company expense policy, and make life easier on your accounting and finance team, then Ramp is the solution. We are also able to reimburse our employees all over the world. In the past, we have used solutions that did not allow us to do that; this has also improved efficiency for multiple team members.

Quick ramp up of reimbursements with Ramp

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ramp today for reimbursements across our organization. We also use it for travel and expense tracking during work trips. It lets us request reimbursement, which is auto verified, and the process is seamless and saves so much time. The interaction is simple and easy too for first time use.

Pros

  • Requesting reimbursement for business expenses
  • Travel expense tracking as a part of business
  • Auto verification of uploaded receipts

Cons

  • More features in the product like budgets etc.
  • Dashboard could be improved for aggregated expense info.
  • Mobile app could be better.

Likelihood to Recommend

If me and a colleague are traveling together not only it helps me add expenses but says which expense was split between the both of us. This makes it so much easier than 2 people have to do it. And the UI is simple to know what has to be done to request reimbursement.

Ramp - An innovative corporate card and platform

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Previously, we had been using our bank's corporate card platform. The software that the platform ran on was very outdated and there were no signs of the product being improved in the future, so it was time for a change. Employees were submitting monthly expense reports and admins were having to remind employees over and over to submit their monthly reports on time. Then came Ramp. Ramp has given time back to employees and admins alike. It allows them to submit receipts in many different ways and does not require monthly expense reports. Employees submit receipts as they go and cards can automatically turn off if employees are not submitting expenses in a timely manner.

Pros

  • expense reporting (submitting receipts and coding to GLs)
  • integration with apps (receipts can automatically upload through integrations)
  • transaction flagging (Ramp uses AI to scan receipts and flag transactions if rules are broken)
  • digital cards (you can set up digital cards for different vendors like Amazon, etc.)
  • Ramp helps you close the month in a timely manner if you set up the right policies

Cons

  • I would like the ability to issue multiple cards to one person in the rare instances where it is necessary

Likelihood to Recommend

Ramp is great for any company, but particularly helpful when you have 50+ cards. The ability to auto-lock cards for missing transaction detail (receipt/budget code) is a game-changer for admins. You can also set up different policies for different groups so you don't end up locking up certain people's cards if you don't want to.

Company spending made easy

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As an Account Executive I end up traveling quite a bit for work. I travel to tradeshows and exhibit events at least 6-12 times a year. Having a company card is very helpful for this reason. Rather than having to keep all my receipts and expense everything I can just use my company card. Even if I forget my card though, I can easily take a photo of my receipt and enter them in the app.

Pros

  • They make the approval process simple for temporary cards
  • It allows remote companies like ours the ability to stay connected

Cons

  • I wish they could categorize repeat transactions rather than listing them all individually on the recent transactions page.

Likelihood to Recommend

To be honest, I have never used Bill or any other major competitor so I dont have a lot to compare it too, but I do like how simple the interface is. I like the app how easy it is to use.

Ramp review

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Ramp for Employee expenses, reimbursements as well as paying vendors. Moving over to Ramp allowed us to review expenses in real time which solved a huge problem for our business. It also allowed us to reimburse Employees expenses as they were submitted not just once a month.

Pros

  • Automatically matching receipts from email integration
  • Reminding employees that a receipt and/or memo needs to be added to their expense
  • Automatic coding of expenses based on settings in the system

Cons

  • The system does not allow you to sort on all columns in some of the areas (not consistent from one screen to another).
  • When bills are entered in as a Bill Pay, the expense doesn't show up in a csv file until it is paid but it needs to be expensed in the system as the date of the Invoice.
  • If a vendor is paid through a credit card transaction as well as Bill Pay, you have to look at two different places in the system to see the details.

Likelihood to Recommend

Ramp is an excellent system for employee credit card expenses and reimbursements. It is very user friendly and easy to use. I love that everything is real time and you can see actionable data such as travel expenses for a specific trip. Data can be sliced and diced in many different ways to find what you are looking for.
