Namely is the HRIS for our company, from when we were under 50 employees to now over 150 employees. We use it for all Onboarding and document e-signature, all Managed Payroll Services, Benefits Administration & Brokerage, Training & Compliance, PTO tracking, other employee records, and Performance Management. We only are light users of it social components.
Pros
comprehensive
user-friendly (for both administrators and users), with an intuitive UI
ease of setup and detailed customization options
ease and detail of reporting and analytics
constantly evolving and adding new functionalities
Cons
Managed Payroll UI could be improved
Employee record keeping functionalities could be more robust
Performance Management customization could be more robust

Namely is well-suited to a company with 1-2 HR Admins and 1-2 Finance personnel (for Payroll purposes), and with an attendant workforce of 50-250. Namely is a one-stop-shop for all HR needs, so is particularly helpful for leanly resourced HR functions. While it has some HR training modules, it's not at PEO level so requires an experienced HR leader at the helm ; but beyond that, many aspects of compliance, onboarding, payroll, training etc are largely automated and sycned across the platform, so works well for a lean HR team with a large employee base (both hourly, and salaried).
I currently use the HRIS tool and performance. I used to use payroll, benefits administration, and benefits brokerage as well, but we fell below 100, so we had to switch those services to a PEO for more competitive insurance rates. I have also used Namely at other companies for all of the above-mentioned services.
Pros
Customization of review templates.
Personnel data storage and accessibility.
Some parts of custom reporting (point in time still has room for improvement).
Payroll
Benefits brokerage and administration.
Cons
Customer service has been largely disappointing and sometimes horrible.
The tax reporting team has had some major hiccups for us.
Some of the custom reporting filters could be improved by adding an in-between dates filter.
Some of the performance review tools are still confusing after 7 years.
Can I say customer service again?
Likelihood to Recommend
I think with better customer service, support, and ongoing training, it could be well suited in all of the areas it currently offers.
Namely is used at our company for employees to clock in and out and to manage sick / vacation time. It’s easy to request time off through the website along with enrolling and managing benefits. Namely is a great tool and has made things easier for the company.
Pros
Easy to request sick days
Easy to request vacation days
Easy to enroll in benefits
Easy to update personal information
Cons
Sometimes I can’t change my clock in or clock out time on the same day
Likelihood to Recommend
Instead of having to get a hold of the HR department, I can easily request the things I need in namely. It makes it a lot quicker to get these things done.

Namely is used as our "internal portal." Everyone in the company uses it. This is the platform for ALL HR-related work, such as benefits, compensation, time off, departmental structure, payroll, everything. Namely is also used as our company infrastructure with details of every employee and department. Finally, Namely is being used as "social media" for TCR2 for significant announcements, employee birthdays, work anniversaries, and life events.
Pros
Everything under the same umbrella.
Extremely user friendly.
Secure
Cons
Forms need to be downloaded, it would be helpful to fill online.
Categories can be simplified. For eg, your and your employee's time off should be under the same tab.
Likelihood to Recommend
Ideal for small to medium-sized companies, companies that are not big enough to have their own intranet portal.
Suitable for a manageable number of employees where employees know and care about each other.
Not ideal for big companies with different functions and departments.
It's easy to get lost and over there one size does fit all.
Not ideal for places where the majority of the information can not be shared throughout the organization.

Namely is being used across our organization as our HRIS. It automates many manual processes like time-off tracking and performance reviews. Namely solves the internal communication issue while reducing email volume. It also provides a vehicle for employees to connect socially since we have a distributed workforce. It makes information and resources more accessible to employees when they need it. It eliminates the paper from all of our processes in HR which contributes to our sustainability goals. The reporting and analytics functions allow us to provide data easily to our management team.
Pros
The social feed helps employees feel connected to what's happening in the company.
Analytics tool is great for getting management buy-in and making decisions.
Onboarding is extremely easy for both admins and new hires.
Goal tracking tool is easy to use and helpful for employees to see their progress.
Cons
Time off tracking tool needs to be more customizable to accommodate varying types of PTO policies. Employees need to be able to easily see what time off they have available.
Performance reviews need to be more streamlined and user friendly for managers. They should be able to see employee responses while they complete reviews. A side-by-side view would be helpful or integrating the responses by question in one view would work as well. It's just very clunky right now for managers. Would also be great to have a place in Namely where managers can keep performance notes (outside of a scheduled review) on employees to reference during reviews and 1:1's.
Increased foldering capabilities in the Resources section to have folders within folders for better organization of resources.
Decrease lag time for benefits updates with providers.
Updates made in HR profiles should flow over to Teams page, like title and reporting line changes.
Ability to search the feed would be great.
Analytics on site usage, i.e., pages visited, resources accessed. This data would help show management the usage and engagement of employees as well as ROI.
More posting capabilities in the feed would be good. Allow posting of videos, audio files, gifs as well as increased text formatting capabilities.
Likelihood to Recommend
Namely is best suited for companies with simple policies and processes that don't require a lot of customization. Namely is great for companies that have a very social culture and want to foster a sense of community.

Namely is used across our organization for a variety of needs: it houses important documents for our employees regarding benefits, leaves of absence, vacation policies, and our employee handbook. Employees also frequently use Namely to request time off, change their addresses and names, input and track KPIs, download paystubs, and tax documents.
Pros
Allows for customization across the board—for example, as an administrator with employees in multiple states, we can create PTO policies that match the labor laws for each employee depending on what state they live in.
Namely’s customer service is phenomenal; they have a large, dedicated team of representatives that work tirelessly to help resolve issues.
Cuts out the need to reach out to the HR team for things like name and address changes, and once an employee changes their address in Namely, HR is notified and can immediately pull that information.
Cons
Does not have the level of KPI management that we would like.
Have had issues with assigning tasks.
Want more out of their news feed social media-esque feature.
Likelihood to Recommend
I feel Namely is well-suited for smaller companies. I cannot speak to companies with a larger headcount, but it has really been integral to upgrading our HRIS system, and the fact that it has integration capabilities with many of the other vendors we currently work with makes for an easy, consistent process across the board.
[Namely is used] as an HRIS [Human Resource Information System], timekeeping and payroll platform by the HR team and by every employee for social / company communications.
Pros
Social feed is great for company-wide communications
Relatively easy to use for employees
Cons
No centralized data platform which creates a ton of disparate data processes and errors
Does not sufficiently support the most basic employee lifecycle processes and pay practices.
Customer support is challenging since there seems to be a huge disconnect with the Namely teams. They don't seem to interact and work together.
Namely is constantly "improving" their platforms but does not always communicate the changes to customers. We're often surprised by changes in functionality.
Inadequate reporting for very common HR and payroll reports.
Likelihood to Recommend
It would be sufficient for a very small company that is not running very complex HR processes. It can handle very basic HRIS [Human Resource Information System] functionality. The social feed is a nice feature to use for company-wide communications. The timekeeping integration with Time Clocks Plus works fairly well without too much issue.
The HRIS and payroll platforms are not nearly capable of supporting HR processes covering the typical employee life cycle. The LOA [Leave of Absence] functionality is terrible, the data is not integrated/centralized across platforms - data is kept all over the place. Transfers between companies or division is horrible - data has to be re-entered multiple times which is time-consuming and creates errors. Payroll cannot be sufficiently processed - PTO does not pull in from HRIS, double-time cannot be calculated, LOAs cannot be calculated. Typical reporting is cumbersome requiring multiple disparate reports to be hobbled together.

Namely helped us consolidate several systems/websites/processes into one single source of information and action. Additionally it gave us insight into our company, the people and profiles of each person, and trend lines that we can use for decision making. It is used by 100% of our team, and it is extremely easy to use, straightforward, and implementation was actually very easy.
Pros
Single source
Data and trends
Performance management
Easy of use
Cons
A bit more customization would be useful
Likelihood to Recommend
Namely is extremely well-suited to you if you need a solution now but are worried about implementation, which system is right, etc. It is extremely well-suited if you have multiple complex systems, websites, multiple payroll servicing sites, or if your employees have to remember a bunch of different passwords and which websites to go on (like in open enrollment).
We use it as our payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping platform throughout the entire company. To be honest it has caused more business problems than it's solved.
Pros
Nothing. This has probably been the worst payroll platform I have ever used and I previously processed in-house payroll.
Cons
The systems don't talk to each other. The support level is based on each rep and some communicate better than others.
We recently found out that a rep has to manually update our PTO accrual amounts in Namely Time, as the system isn't robust enough to capture multiple levels of accrual rates.
There is limited support for companies in the West Coast. You have to wait until the next day to get service if something happens after 2 p.m.
Likelihood to Recommend
I would never recommend Namely to anyone. This platform has to be micromanaged, as you get conflicting information depending on the rep you are speaking to. We also have to micromanage the system to ensure that everything is being done correctly. This is extremely frustrating as it is a payroll and HRIS system. We shouldn't have to spend more time on our end ensuring things work.
