We used Namely for about a year and during that time the experience was okay but left a lot to be desired. Some of the pros that Namely had were the onboarding process and the social setup for employees to interact with one another. Unfortunately, the pros did not outweigh the cons and therefore led us to move on to a different vendor. The customer service left was very inconsistent and difficult at times especially when we were working on our ACA reporting forms. That process was a nightmare as we had to do it manually even though we were told it was part of the service we paid for. In addition to being promised many things during the demo process that fell through such as document storage and mismanagement of data.

Namely is aesthetically very pleasing and navigates like other social media platforms which can be appealing to potentially a remote workforce who interacts more online than in person. Unfortunately, it did not serve our population well as we are primarily manufacturing where people are not as interested in utilizing the HRIS for interactions when they would rather connect in person.

Namely is the HRIS for our company, from when we were under 50 employees to now over 150 employees. We use it for all Onboarding and document e-signature, all Managed Payroll Services, Benefits Administration & Brokerage, Training & Compliance, PTO tracking, other employee records, and Performance Management. We only are light users of it social components.

Pros

user-friendly (for both administrators and users), with an intuitive UI
ease of setup and detailed customization options
ease and detail of reporting and analytics
constantly evolving and adding new functionalities

Namely is well-suited to a company with 1-2 HR Admins and 1-2 Finance personnel (for Payroll purposes), and with an attendant workforce of 50-250. Namely is a one-stop-shop for all HR needs, so is particularly helpful for leanly resourced HR functions. While it has some HR training modules, it's not at PEO level so requires an experienced HR leader at the helm ; but beyond that, many aspects of compliance, onboarding, payroll, training etc are largely automated and sycned across the platform, so works well for a lean HR team with a large employee base (both hourly, and salaried).

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Namely is a user-friendly HRIS that makes daily administrative tasks easy to manage. It's very easy to learn and use, which is a plus for me as I onboard all of our new hires. There are templates that you can create to prepare for pre-onboarding your new hire, which makes onboarding go so much more smoothly. I appreciate the integration with AdobeSign so that you can send documents for signature and they automatically save in the employee's profile. The home page is set up like a social media site and allows you to post updates and see whose birthday or anniversary is coming up which is great for engagement.

I use Namely mainly to process our biweekly payroll and run reports needed for backup, entering into our accounting system. I access the HRIS side for specific employee information. I update Unemployment rates, new pay codes, and create cases when there are issues. Issues are usually when we receive Tax Notices from various state or federal agencies.

Pros

If you have everything set up correctly, the payroll process is relatively simple and seamless.
When I have an issue and need to call Namely, I'd say I get the help/answers I need 98% of the time. Cases submitted get resolved relatively quickly 95 - 99% of time depending on the complexity of the case.
As an employee, it's a pretty friendly system to use...the news feed is familiar (like FaceBook); accessing my paystub, benefits, and other resources is pretty self explanatory and easy to use.

Cons

Namely Time reports are very cumbersome and not user friendly. I have to jump through hoops to manipulate the excel reports make the information usable.
We have one pay group with many hourly rates and job codes. When it comes to calculating overtime for this group, I have to do this outside of Namely. This could be a problem on my end. I don't have time to figure this out.
The biggest issue is that the payroll system does NOT talk directly to accounting system. I have to export the payroll journal entry detail reports to then manipulate to then import into our accounting system.

Likelihood to Recommend

In my opinion, Namely has worked well for us/me as a Payroll Service Provider. Namely needs to improve on getting the payroll system to "talk" to our accounting system, which is NetSuite. The time keeping side needs improvement in the area I mentioned previously. The reports are not easy to use.

Our organization uses Namely for all our HR and payroll needs. This product addresses our business needs more than our previous provider by being more user friendly and having a more robust HR platform all in one system. The feed is especially useful for performance shoutouts and internal updates. There are some pieces that I feel do not live up to our previous provider, but there are also aspects that Namely has that are more beneficial than our previous provider. Overall,

our employees enjoy Namely as users, and HR sees improvements with their side,

but the payroll side could have a few more options to make the system better.

A feed for shoutouts, promotions, terminations, new hires, birthdays, and anniversaries
Automatic state and local taxes added based on employee address (a big plus for Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana)

Cons

Limits to custom reporting
No direct feed for Ohio Workers Comp (now a manual process on our end)
No option to place an employee on Leave of Absence and exclude them from payroll while they are "inactive"
No option to suppress certain deductions for certain pay types (i.e. allow 401K for commissions but block remaining deductions - also now a manual process to uncheck the suppress box for 401K for each commission check)

Namely is nice because it has everything all in one place: performance, applicant tracking through Greenhouse, payroll, time off, hourly timesheets, and benefits. From the payroll side, Namely is especially helpful for remote employers who have employees in multiple states, especially Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Namely will automatically update the payroll profile of the employee with the state and local tax for the work or home location, whichever the employer chooses. I have found a few mistakes with the local tax being assigned not matching the Ohio Tax Finder, but for the most part, it is accurate. It is also helpful that we can create multiple payrolls for multiple periods and they are included in the overall fee.

We use Namely for our HR, payroll and benefits applications. Namely security set up allowed us to document our SOX controls smoothly this past year when we went public. Security setting for our preparer and reviewing on the HR and payroll user functionally worked well when building out our SOX controls.

We use Namely as sort of a recordkeeper for employee information and Namely Time for timesheets. We needed a way for employees to record their hours spent on client projects and time off. We do not use Namely for payroll.

Cons

In benefits administration, in life insurance and disability sections, there's no option to include employees' bonuses as earnings. Therefore, employees' coverage and premiums are all incorrect.
Time off recorded in Namely Time does not transfer to HRIS, resulting in employees needing to enter their time off twice - in Namely Time and in their Time Off section of Namely.
In Namely Time, only the previous week can be copied into the current week. It would be helpful if time recorded could be copied to any week.

Likelihood to Recommend

Namely is pretty easy to use, but there are some areas that could be improved. Namely Time could be more streamlined with Namely HRIS. Benefits administration is a little difficult to use.
