Synthesised from 8 reviews | Last Published April 23, 2026

This product assessment is based on a synthesis of 8 recent reviews analyzing Microsoft SharePoint across multiple dimensions, including overall satisfaction and return on investment. SharePoint is primarily used for document storage and sharing, a function cited by 6 of 8 reviewers. It also serves as a collaboration tool and intranet platform, mentioned by half the reviewers. SharePoint's inclusion within Microsoft 365 is a significant value driver, noted by half the reviewers, streamlining document organization and potentially reducing the need for dedicated resources. Improved efficiency through real-time data and a single source of truth were highlighted by 3 of 8 reviewers, reducing errors and redundant efforts. However, usability concerns persist, with 2 of 8 reviewers citing a lack of intuitiveness and confusing overlap with Microsoft Teams. Some users also find information discoverability challenging and struggle to quantify SharePoint's ROI compared to alternatives.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft SharePoint is used as part of our document and project management system. We developed our own version of Project Management on SharePoint and although the effort level was very high the end result meets our needs. The team of developers needed to build and debug the system was about 4-5. It manages our publishing process (each publication is a project).

Pros

  • Version control of documents
  • Basic workflows
  • customizable interface

Cons

  • document management (for example archiving and sentencing)
  • better workflows controls (1 to many, many to 1 , many to many)
  • blob management

Likelihood to Recommend

Microsoft SharePoint is good for basic intranets out of the box. Apart from that be prepared to put in a lot of effort to get the particular results you want, particularly if the outcome is complex. Although I have heard that SP is a solution looking for a problem I think it is far better than that and your imagination is the limit of what can be achieved with this product. The balance is the amount of effort to get the desired results.
