We handle a lot of PII for our customers since we run credit checks and also access their mortgage information. We want to have a secure way of instantly and securely share documents to different members of the team, especially those who are on site or working from home. Most of the mesaging apps do have that feature but I guess because of the number of users we have experienced significant delays in sending messages.
Pros
Easy intergration to our main CRM (Monday.com)
I'm not techy myself but I have seen a lot of our previous integrations in Slack transferred over to Mattermost so that's fun
The desktop and phone app (android) works well enough. I haven't tried it on the Apple ecosystem yet.
Cons
We just use it for file sharing and messaging, it was not so hard to transition to it from Slack. The app is laggy sometimes, but that is to be expected I guess.

I think if you are starting out in messaging apps like this, it's a pretty great start. User friendly and easy to navigate. However if you're used to a certain messaging environment it may not work for you because it's not really heavy on features. I like that about it though, because it's strictly a business messaging app.

- communication between team members as well as communication with other teams - group calls for small meetings - low-cost alternative communication software - able to self-host which is optimal for startups
Pros
AI copilot: a handy feature that summarizes messages and can give further context if needed
Jira integration: can create Jira from messages, which is quite a useful and time-saving feature.
GitHub integration: Pending PRs, notifications is quite useful
Multiple messages in the thread is grouped through in small fonts with the main text, which is quite good.
Cons
UI can be more interactive, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing
video calls can be made better
Likelihood to Recommend
Very good project management, you can see Jira's issues, epics, tasks, stories in single application, which can summarize what team is working on and what all things is in my plate.

We use it to collaborate with the new plugin for MS teams. We are using the product for communications with our analytics department. Many of our technicians are out in the field and we can use this tool for secure mobile messaging. We are using AI to predict maintenance schedules for our customers and are able to connect our service to this platform
Pros
Collaboration of multiple groups
Security
Mobility
Cons
integration with other software can be tricky
audio quality could use refinement
Likelihood to Recommend
It is fast and has reliable notifications that we can send to our technicians out in the field quickly and effectively. It is very easy to use and is a better method to relay field information back to the office instead of using cumbersome group texts and email. Even though its great sometimes a phone call is better than the options in the application.
Communication with the whole team and subteams. Integration with other tools and software like GitLab. Arranging appointments and small planning of to-dos in Mattermost Boards. Possibility of self-hosting/on-premise hosting.
Pros
easy setup
customization
privacy focused
multi platforms
Cons
more integrations
bigger focus on selfhosting
Likelihood to Recommend
Small and medium-sized teams that need a communication and meeting arranging tool with the possibility to integrate external tools or want to customize their chat platform very specific. Also, when teams need custom plugins / integrations for their work, it is easy to develop the integrations themselves, because of the good documentation and open-source project.

We used Mattermost for our between-the-teams communication in the company. A very useful tool, intuitive, and easy to get used to. Had all the features you may need. Another option was Diego, but when I joined, they had been worst using Mattermost for a while and I did like it a lot. Very nice interface and all the features for a proficient commun9 and interaction with people.
Pros
GUI is ready to get used to
Perfect notifications
Has all the features you may need to talk to anyone
Web interface
Cons
Not sure I have complaints about it.
I don't remember when something didn't work.
Likelihood to Recommend
This tool is great for secure communication between the company employees. You can sign in using Okta, which is what we used at Kessel Run (through Concept Solutions). It's an air force, so you can assume we needed good tools.
The most common case for Mattermost is internal communication maintaining privacy correctly, it is also very appropriate for direct communications with videos, we feel that the use is very simple and didactic. It seems that it can be used by a large number of people at the same time without affecting the operation, currently, it is used specifically in 6 departments, the use is increasingly wide thanks to the fact that it passes a simple and friendly user interface for all.
Pros
Simple user interface.
Good privacy system in conversations.
Cons
Personalization can improve a bit more.
Likelihood to Recommend
Mattermost is an internal communication service with simple functions and a system that is safe, appropriate, and easy to implement. Regarding profitability, I can say that it is favorable due to the good price it offers, it has great capacity and, in general terms, the functions are very good considering that at this moment we have excellent internal communication.
We have internal private talks that we do not want to share or expose all this information on public servers, so we use Mattermost internally and also we are using Mattermost for some teams. The beauty of Mattermost is that you can host on your personal servers.
Pros
Messages.
Playbooks.
Boards.
Cons
CI/CD.
Integrations.
Project Management.
Likelihood to Recommend
If you're looking for a replacement for Slack it is a good choice. It is cheaper and makes more sense.
We are starting to use Mattermost along with Slack for cross team and cross organization communication.
Pros
Good usability
Good with our project management and workflows
Good tool for the Enterpise
Cons
Need more integrations from other products with Mattermost
Likelihood to Recommend
This has been effective with communications across teams outside my immediate team. We are able to use it for threading and we can use it across multiple channels. When we need immediate feedback with one of our partners we get updates on the status of their service. We have become more productive since we starting using Mattermost.

Mattermost is being used across an entire organization; however, it enables us to keep multiple workgroups in sync with each other and formulate best approach methods to tackle various problems that arise both internally and externally to the organization. We have geographically diverse individuals working within cross-spectrum workgroups to address problems that span vertically.
Pros
Mattermost has an excellent mobile client.
Mattermost has very fast & reliable instant messaging features.
Mattermost integrates to other systems we use such as Big Blue Button.
Cons
Mattermost has some issues with its messaging system.
Mattermost's code is not straightforward for developing customizations.
Likelihood to Recommend
I believe that Mattermost is one of a family of best of breed applications that we rely on. If someone were to ask me about Mattermost, I would have no trouble recommending it for their needs because it has been able to do for us what we had hoped for. We had tried other applications that touted similar features, but Mattermost was the first one we tried that actually delivered on those expectations.
