Jamf Pro MADE MY JOB LESS STRESSFUL

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Jamf Pro is our only MDM. and it helps me run three different buildings and all of their devices. We are a CHARTER SCHOOL in Decatur IL. [...]. We have almost 500 devices and 3 locations and being able to do all of the things we can from one location is a benefit.

Pros

  • REMOTE LOCK OF LOST IPADS
  • EASY UPDATE OF IOS AND MACOS
  • TRACK DEVICES AND KEEP THEM IN COMPLIANCE
  • ZERO TOUCH

Cons

  • To be honest these last few updates have solved all my issues that I had.
  • The one thing I would like to see is better searching for SHARED IPADS. To be able to search the shared users on the iPads

Jamf Protect

Jamf Pro is a reliable and imminently useful MDM

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Jamf Pro to manage a fleet of 150 Macs and around 100 iPads. We also use it to remotely deploy software and printers. It is essential in standardizing configuration and software across all the computers and devices, with different configurations for staff and students. It's also been important in deploying Jamf Connect to allow JIT account creation without having to bind to Active Directory.

Pros

  • Jamf Pro's Self Service is a great mechanism for making software available to end uses as they need it.
  • Jamf Pro is also great for creating plans called PreStage Enrollments that allow for computers to skip many of the setup screens, as well as automating account creation.
  • Jamf Pro in combination with Apple Automated Device Enrollment (formerly DEP) allows for devices to supervised and managed, this combination allows for locking, remote wipe of devices, and finding locations of devices when put into lost mode.

Cons

  • Jamf Pro has made great strides in patch management, but it's still not as smooth as it could be.
  • Jamf Pro needs a better mechanism for enforcing computer and device names, as well as setting names when devices are brought in, in an automated manner.
  • As we wait for Jamf Pro to include the Remote Desktop functionality in the management page for devices, depreciating Jamf Remote and shifting to Team Viewer was not appreciated. It feels like a long wait.

Most Important Features

  • Remote Management
  • Automated device enrollment and PreStage Enrollments
  • Self Service
  • Remote Software distribution

Return on Investment

  • Ability to see users on iPads and alert them to when devices are overdue, as well as locking them has been impactful for making sure that devices are available for patrons. This has meant that our supply of iPads fits the needs of students and are available for checkout.
  • We have used Jamf Pro to lock laptops and iPads to disable use of the computer/device and to force the return of the item, this saving the cost of replacement in many cases.
  • Staff have not had any complaints about the use of Self Service or the issue of having computers that are remotely managed. Staff are all aware that the computers and iPads are remotely managed, but the management is unobtrusive.
  • Lastly, the ability to control when end users upgrade the system operating system means the ability to schedule end user downtime, and less lost productivity.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

When I first started with The Art of Education, I was a contractor and they were using a very basic MDM solution. It had been set up poorly and was not meeting their needs. I lobbied for change and we made the switch to Jamf Pro. It was 100% worth it! Our options went from almost zero to hero overnight. Jamf Pro has allowed us to continuously improve our device management, and meet an ever-growing need. From custom shell scripts to customized profiles, extension attributes for reporting, and a well-supported API. Anytime I've hit a brick wall, Jamf support has been there to assist, with chat support, email response, or even a Zoom meeting to help me find the right answers. If you're looking for your next MDM solution, you can't go wrong with Jamf Pro.

Pros

  • Custom Scripts mean you can accomplish almost anything you need.
  • Extension Attributes gives you a way to report on anything.
  • Extremely configurable. Just know that means it can be hard to find what you're looking for.
  • Training and community resources are readily available.

Cons

  • Training options are terrific, but costly.
  • Finding what you need in Jamf Pro can be tough at times. The interface is not what I would call friendly.
  • You'll need static credentials for Jamf Pro. They don't integrate with the Jamf Account, and it doesn't offer 2FA. SSO is an option, but it's not simple to set up.

Most Important Features

  • Integration with Jamf Protect/Connect for security and SSO.
  • Insight into inventory.
  • A maintained API for integrating other solutions.

Return on Investment

  • The switch to Jamf Pro made a huge impact on our ability to deliver apps to devices.
  • Jamf Pro has helped us to improve the security of our fleet.
  • It has improved our ability to understand the state of devices for inventory control.

Jamf Pro is worth the time and investment

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a busy design studio, we don't have a dedicated IT person to manage our Macs. As a former Apple Genius, I saw how helpful having a mobile device manager could be. Although it was a little tricky to set up, once I went through the training, it was invaluable for me to manage our Macs—especially now that we are working in a hybrid mode after the COVID shutdowns. It's been so successful that we're expanding Jamf Pro to our other offices worldwide. The support is great, too. I highly recommend it. We're also rolling out Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect. We've tried other protects, and they don't work as well.

Pros

  • Inventory reporting
  • Push OS updates
  • Restrict software
  • Set up strict security measures

Cons

  • The training is a bit hard to follow, and classes are expensive
  • Dedicated support is very expensive and unfortunately necessary
  • Templates for standard tasks would be helpful

Most Important Features

  • Links to our Apple Business Manager
  • You can set up "one touch" deployment which saves a lot of time
  • It's made for Apple products, but you can use it on PCs

Return on Investment

  • It is great for pushing out OS updates and new software, it saves so much time
  • During COVID it made it so easy to enforce updates and add new software
  • Some of the software made for Windows and Macs is difficult to deploy
