Great for HR Compliance and Best Practices

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am an HR Consultant with clients in states across the US. Brightmine allows me to easily stay up to date with employment laws and best practices. When a client has an issue that I have not come across or am not sure how to address, I can go to Brightmine and quickly find an answer. Their step-by-step guides provide great reminders of how to handle complex situations.

Pros

  • 50-State Charts give a quick overview of compliance requirements by state
  • The step-by-step guides are helpful when navigating complex situations that require multiple actions.
  • Their flow charts are great for decision making around things like FLSA status and determining a hardship for an accommodation.

Cons

  • There is no phone application to easily navigate through information. Sometimes I like to review legal updates or other articles from my phone and the website is not formatted well for mobile viewing.
  • The dashboard customization is very limited and not visually appealing.
  • The job description list is a bit random. There are specific job descriptions like "Park Naturalists" but nothing for a fairly standard role like "Project Manager"

Return on Investment

  • Reduced legal risk through informed decision making.
  • Less time spent researching and thinking about how to handle complex situations.
  • Less time developing tools and resources that can be used for my clients.

Invaluable tool for HR teams whatever the size or scope

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our small HR team uses Brightmine daily in our roles, from downloading templates for documentation and policies, to getting inspiration and guidance for training for our stakeholders. We are a team of three ranging from 2 - 4 years' generalist experience to 20+ (HRD) and we all get so much value from Brightmine. Probably the best value we have seen is the ability to move forwards without a costly monthly legal retainer in place; the legal advice service is invaluable, practical and the response time is swift! As all HR professionals will know, every day is a school day regardless of time in the role. As we cover APAC in our team, it's also great to know that we can expand the scope of the legal advice service beyond the UK as we grow and the need increases.

Pros

  • practical legal advice service
  • legal and compliance email updates
  • response time on legal advice

Cons

  • option to get additional access (number of accounts) to legal advice service for low or no additional cost

Return on Investment

  • removal of cost of legal retainer (previously £1,500 per month)
  • quicker turnaround times on policy updates
  • greater levels of compliance / lower risk

Cons

  • when downloading policy templates, they are hard to edit because they have this frame around the content
  • integrate legal timelines to sync with outlook and google calendars easily

Brightmine: The Legal and Employee Handbook Resource You Didn't Know You Need

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Brightmine for all of the legal resources and information it provides on its main platform. I receive email updates to law and regulatory changes which are very helpful and I have employees in 30 states and I cannot keep track of all of that on my own. I rely on Brightmine for that information. We also use Brightmine for creation and updating of our employee handbook. Again, it helps us keep abreast of changes in the law that affect the content within our handbook.

Pros

  • Keep me informed of regulatory changes
  • Has great matrices on a per state basis for multiple regulatory topics, such as payment of final wages, etc.
  • Provides resources such as labor law posters for updating
  • Has a great handbook tool for creating and updating handbooks with well written policies that are easy to edit and customize.

Cons

  • I wish it was easier to add or remove states to my license without having to go through Brightmine account people. When I have people living in multiple states and I add that state to my account, then I have to reach out to someone to remove that state when they leave.
  • I find the handbook tool to be a little clumsy, but it does work well. There is just a lot going on in that portal.

Return on Investment

  • Reduced legal expenditures -- I didn't have to pay lawyers to make a handbook for me.
  • First point of reference for legal questions
  • Reduces our risk and ensures we make the right legal decisions.
  • Easy to research and find content using the search function of the home page dashboard.

Brightmine - a can't live without product for HR Consultants!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Brightmine to stay up to date on the numerous employment laws in effect at the federal level and across the U.S. The product not only gives me one place to go to review employment regs, but it also explains them and helps me to have a better understanding without the time required for research using multiple sources. I also find value in the drafted policies, letters, and forms. As a consultant, this product reduces my worktime, and allows me to be more efficient.

Pros

  • Legal Timetable
  • Well written policy templates
  • Comprehensive employment law guide
  • Variety of resources I need (job descriptions, policies, letters, templates, trainings).

Cons

  • Frequent technology issues - the system will not be available and I get an error code. This is not good when I need to find information right then. I feel concerned when this happens because I pay a lot for the product and I expect it to be available when I need it.

Return on Investment

  • Brightmine reduces the time it would take me to research certain items on my own. As a consultant, this increases my capacity, allowing me to take on additional clients and increase my revenue.
  • Using Brightmine saves me from needing to hire someone to help me perform research or to help me stay up-to-date on changing laws. Although I pay for the service, it is at least 80% less than an employee would cost.
