Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Currently we use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for online donation forms only, we use the database view for everything else. The reason that we use the donation forms in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is because it is the only way that you can allow the donor to pay the credit card fees. There are two types of donor-cover options, and I believe that the "complete cover" option is very misleading for donors as they are not aware the money is going directly to BB and the rate they are charged is higher than all the credit card fees that the organization pays. We chose to do "donor-cover" instead. It took a bit of trail and error switching our online giving forms from the database to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT because not all the functions of the database are available in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, changing our procedures and making the entry more difficult.
Pros

- Easy to see an overview of the donor record
Cons
- It is hard to find specific settings because they are mixed into the different modules and there is a lot of trial and error to find them.
- Defaulting to automatically match constituents to their records for transactions is really bad, manual review should be the default as people make mistakes and they do not know how our database is set up. A simple thing of the donor entering 'St." and our record having "Street" would cause a duplicate to be created, this is just horrible for database maintenance.
- You cannot apply a gift to a pledge in batch, you have to commit the batch and then go into the database to apply the gift to a pledge. Not everyone has an automatically paid pledge - even if it is not as widely used of a function, all functionality in the database view of batch should be incorporated to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT. You cannot expect us to use the product with LESS functionality.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is our current solution for all data related to the organization supporters. It is the sole gateway for all the information we utilize to make strategic approaches in fundraising campaigns. One of the great things about working with a Blackbaud product is the support received. They are great at troubleshooting any issues and following up as needed when an immediate solution may not be available.
Pros
- Easy to navigate.
- Easy to download and output reports.
- Accesible via mobile, which is useful on the go.
- Great customer support.
Cons
- The main one that comes to mind is customization. It’s probably one of the biggest things that would be great to see.
- Improve the syncing of data between LO and RE.
- Improve importing to avoid less duplicates. De-duping is a manual process. Automation would be great!

- Mobile and web access to data which is key!
- Reminder feature is great too. Especially in fundraising.
- Data export and reporting are super important. The fact that I can pull a report in a matter of minutes make it easy to respond to emergency requests in a timely manner.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT daily to track my activities in Major Gift fund raising for a regional comprehensive public university in the Midwest. I'm able to keep my Portfolio of donors organized, and using the Actions and other tools, prioritize my outreach, follow-up and next steps for successful outcomes. I enjoy the ease and detail of the Actions, and the customization of the appearance of the constituent pages' content in the web view. I sometimes find that the Constituent lists generated can help me focus when I engage in travel outside my "normal" assigned geographic areas, and appreciate the filtering to prioritize those constituents.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our main database for processing any donation, keeping records of all our donors. I think the main problem it solves is the fact it is a database that keeps all our donors information safe. It is also great for keeping track of any targets for each income stream, its all very accessible and easy to understand

Great option for Advancement Department of private high school!
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Working in Advancement, I utilize The Raiser's Edge multiple times a day. We are an all-girls private high school so we need to accurately track not only current students and parents but also our alumnae and other donors. The Raiser's Edge allows us to do this easily. We have started tracking events and now have the tribute module, allowing us to more easily capture the honorariums and memorials we receive in our alums' names. Building our donor forms in Online Express gives us the flexibility to capture information while still accepting online donations. The reporting features in NXT are great snapshots for those that need to see quick numbers for various funds, campaigns, or even events. Our Finance people have view access to see these numbers since our systems do not communicate currently. Being able to break down giving by class year is a great bonus, too, for competitions between classes! Having all of these people in one database gives us the ability to handle all the mailings needed for the school.
Pros
- Security is great because the DBA is able to really specify what can be viewed by different people and to do so in different ways. There are so many options to refine options for different work types.
- While reports in database view are more extensive, the options are still vast in NXT. You can break down the same data in different ways on the same report with different insights and then have a drill-down ability right there rather than running a different report.
- Having the ability to send emails directly from NXT is great because the database automatically records each receipt for the constituents. Each email sent shows click rate, what addresses bounced, and other helpful information.
Cons
- The database view is still much more versatile with information tracked in areas outside standard constituent information (contact and biographical). Gifts that are pledges/payments or tributes must be entered in database view because there are no options in NXT as of yet.
- Querying can be easier in the database view depending on your needs. Lists are really helpful and plenty of options exist for filters but sometimes they're just very limited for what you need.
- You cannot add new campaigns, funds, and appeals with their necessary information from NXT. That must be accessed through database view.

- The add-on for alumni is invaluable to our department.
- Tracking all aspects of events is very useful for our Advancement department.
- Gift tracking is the most utilized aspect of NXT, both for individual gifts and the reporting of them.
Return on Investment
- Having the ability to break down giving in different ways (giving levels, groups of people) allows us to target our annual fund.
- After cleaning data, I have been able to dramatically decrease the amount of time needed to collect a mailing list for our periodical magazine.
- Our department is more productive now with the decrease in the number of spreadsheets needed to track information since data is centralized.
