Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use FE NXT as our accounting product for the GL, budgets, AP processing and through journal entries, adding payroll, bank activity and accounts receivable. We manage multiple organizations withing FE through GL numbers so reporting can be manageable.

Flexibility in setting up account numbers

Cons

With the transition from database to web based, the JE upload is an ongoing issue.
Upgrades are not always vetted through clients who use the functionality, therefore, not working properly in the field.

Likelihood to Recommend

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a complex suite of products. For a larger and/or complex organization, it works very well. However, that comes with a cost. For a small organization, it may be too much product and too expensive. A good vetting of organizational needs and budget should occur before committing to an program like FE NXT.

Please note that what I use if a very small portion of what we have access to. My usage is journal entries for payroll and bank activity, and bank reconciliation. Others use the program more extensively and may have other opinions.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT to house the accounting processes for a non-profit. It integrates with Raiser's Edge, eliminating duplicate entry into two separate systems. This change has reduced the use of redundant spreadsheets and has saved staff a significant amount of time. The opportunity to provide reports directly out of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT has been very helpful.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Since I work in HR/Benefits my main tasks in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT are around benefit billing. We use the AR module for this task after Raiser's Edge was terminated. The AR module is very different that Raiser's Edge was which is fine, however there was a loss of functionality for us with the switch. Part of this was due to the type of billing we were doing and our organization's unique needs. We have adjusted to the AR module but the new challenge is the slow switch of the AR module from database view to the web view. Currently functionality of AR is split between these views causing it to be very challenging to complete our benefit billing. I am hopeful that once AR is fully transitioned to web view and we have a chance to use it we will have a good experience. My only hesitation is that the transition from Raiser's Edge to AR was a very negative one so I am having a hard time believing this time will be different.

We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for all non-profit accounting needs from AP to AR, treasury management, reporting, expense management and integration with Tuition Management and Raiser's Edge. The platform has drastically helped our school streamline data collection, communication between systems and expedite all processes related to accounting and back office administration.

The solution's ability to track and search activity by account, fund, project, department, restriction level, etc. makes it easy for users of all levels to extract the information needed to monitor activity for their respective operations in a manner that is understandable and easy to use.

We are an organization that holds events for awareness and fundraising and makes grants to community groups. We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT next to disburse payments to vendors and those who implement projects / provide services.

fields are somewhat outdated
steps to log in can be cumbersome
some people report they have trouble adding attachments
would be nice if one can refer to attachments that have previously been added rather than adding the same file to multiple invoice requests

Likelihood to Recommend

It has generally been working for us even though it is cumbersome at times. Well suited to the needs of a large organization with dedicated full time staff but in the case of one involving volunteers who use the system less frequently it can be hard to handle. Some of this might be due to measures that are needed for a secure system, some of them might be improvable if one tried to make it more volunteer friendly.

We use FE NXT for all of our financial needs. I was responsible for Accounts Payable and used it daily. It was easy to come from RE to FE as their interfaces are roughly the same and you can carry over skills from one to the other. It is robust with its reporting tools and our team is happy with it.

I have found that it is good for Non Profit Organizations who use both Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge together to cut down on double data-entry and other things such as reducing reconciliation errors and check times. We have found that sometimes, some of the reports and numbers are different for seemingly no reason from one run of the report to the next. We have spent many hours on hold with BlackBaud trying to resolve some of these issues we have found.

I am with a Federally Qualified Healthcare organization. We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for our financial reports, grant management, and accounting functions.

Pros

Provide statistical information for financial data
Ease of use for the Accounting and Finance team
Provide real-time dashboard information for executive team

Cons

Provide the ability to create the accounting classification in individual segments.
Provide easy configuration with third-party software integration.

Likelihood to Recommend

Running reports or general ledger details by specific accounting classification segments is a challenge. In prior software that I have used, I was able to run reports by only a department, center, or a specific General Ledger account number. However, this is a challenge in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT because the segments of the accounting classification are not held in the system as individual fields.
