Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Bing Webmaster Tools alongside Google Search Console and Google Analytics to help with SEO/organic search work such as - backlinks, keywords, search volumes, see visibility, metrics and reporting and visibility as SERP results. We specifically use it for Bing search and not Google as 2 different information sources. Its great to have an alternative source of information.

Pros

  • SEO Reporting - great metrics reporting on Bing
  • SEO Metrics - ongoing daily summaries and reporting
  • Great source of information for search specific to Bing/Microsoft
  • Website SEO analysis / diagnostics - identifies issues and problems
  • Great help and support from Microsoft
  • Import from Google Search Console - get all info imported across
  • Loads of secondary tools you can use - loads of different reports you didn't know you needed
  • Its all free - so its great

Cons

  • Interface and navigation could be cleaned up a bit
  • Integrate AI improvements better - it could do regular scans to tell me what needs updating
  • Overall not as good as Google - but robust enough

Return on Investment

  • Positive impact overall - we get a number of leads though organic search on Bing web search so its an essential tool for optimisations and see how content is performing
  • Its works great with Microsoft Advertising as well for tracking conversions
  • It's free so you can avoid paying for some tools that you think you might need.

Bing's Free Webmaster Tools Are Feature Rich, Definitive, and Yes, Free

Pros

  • Manual scans are returned fast--often within an hour.
  • You can import all of your Google Search Console properties with a few clicks.
  • Bing's interface is flatter than Google's and easy to use.
  • Benchmarking similar sites is a nice touch.

Cons

  • Context-based help visible on the page would be awesome.
  • Keyword research is a fantastic tool that needs more context.
  • The submission API that lets you "automate URL submission" and submit new content quickly is poorly explained and creates doubt among people who might wonder why they need to submit content.

Return on Investment

  • The biggest positive is the certainty that comes from using a search engine's data. There are based on actual data, not samples and projections that are then scaled up.
  • The SEO Reports are exceptionally easy to use.
  • The visual site explorer is something that Google Search Console does not have (although Google Analytics does)
  • The user interface is excellent.

The Surprisingly Effective Younger Brother to Google Search Console

Pros

  • Clarity. Bing Webmaster Tools is well-designed and easy to navigate, even for beginners.
  • Keyword rankings. Gives more visibility than Google Search Console into how your website ranks for specific keywords.
  • In-program SEO editing. Allows you to submit URLs, disavow links, block URLs, control BingBot's crawl, and more.

Cons

  • Better clarity on traffic data from Bing and Yahoo separately.
  • Easier ownership verification.

Return on Investment

  • Sessions from Bing and Yahoo have increased year over year.
  • Zero critical SEO errors.

A useful tool that could be improved upon

Pros

  • Make it easy to submit new pages to be crawled
  • SEO reports provide feedback on our webpages that aren't following best-practices
  • Overall there are a lot of different second-level tools that you may not know exist until you begin using it

Cons

  • The user-interface isn't as friendly or appealing as Google's - very bland overall.
  • The way they present their Page Traffic report is a big turn-off. It's basically just a grid of numbers and arrows which is hard to interpret at a high level.

Return on Investment

  • Bing Webmaster Tools has allowed us to index our website and individual web pages quickly and efficiently for SEO purposes.
  • It has provided us with good feedback in terms of applying SEO best practices to our web pages.

Bing Webmaster pulls together all of your needed SEO tools!

Pros

  • Quick access to all of your Bing stats.
  • The ability to jump between SEO, keyword and site maximization makes working in Bing Webmaster tools easy.
  • The diagnostic tools that allow you to research issues or overcome challenges is really clean and easy to navigate.

Cons

  • The UI is simple but very boring. It's very Microsoft and not very elegant.
  • On the display of analytics, it is also very simple, without the ability to change graphs or charts to better display data.
  • Bing Businesses could be better integrated and takes you to another site to view that data.

Return on Investment

  • We haven't seen major ROI while using Bing, but we haven't put a lot of time into maximizing the use of Bing.
