Automox is primarily utilized by organizations for comprehensive patch management, ensuring up-to-date software and operating systems to reduce vulnerability exposure and streamline IT operations. In TrustRadius reviews, it is also valued for vulnerability remediation and as an endpoint management solution, simplifying device oversight. A majority of reviewers report significant time savings for IT staff, allowing reallocation of resources from patching and administration tasks. The platform's automation and scripting capabilities, particularly through 'worklets,' are central to this efficiency, enabling uninterrupted employee work during maintenance.

Reviewers often commend the intuitive user interface and clear dashboard, contributing to ease of use. However, common feedback highlights limitations in dashboard and reporting customization, with some desiring more tailored widgets and automated email reports. There is also a request for a broader catalog of pre-built worklets and more detailed error reporting. Overall, the sentiment indicates Automox effectively boosts operational efficiency and improves security posture through automated patching and increased visibility.

  • Streamlined patch management leading to substantial time savings for IT staff
  • Flexible and easily deployable 'worklets' for various system tasks
  • Intuitive user interface with a clear, easy-to-navigate dashboard
  • Customizable policy enforcement for tailored configurations
  • Improved visibility into security infrastructure and system health
  • Limited customization options for dashboards and reporting widgets
  • Insufficient catalog of pre-built worklets, especially for executable patches
  • Occasional slow initial connection times for remote system management
  • Desire for more detailed error reporting
  • Intermittent reliability issues with the notification application

Lightweight quick to implement patching SaaS

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We leverage Automox to stay on top of patching compliance for our Linux servers running in AWS. While a majority of our services are containerized, we have a few persistent workloads that need to run on traditional EC2 hardware. Automox handles the scheduling, application, and reporting for our VMs in the cloud.

Pros

  • Ease of endpoint registration
  • Device group creation, policy definition, and application
  • Ease of reporting for auditors or internal stakeholders

Cons

  • There exists an issue where you register some Amazon AMIs, which in even samples of 4 or 5, sometimes contain a duplicate identifier. Automox has provided a fix document, but it requires manual intervention and digging to discover this. I think they should identify a better way to assign UUIDs to machines, as sometimes registering too many VMs makes others "fall off"
  • Allow for multiple global admins

Likelihood to Recommend

Automox is great for companies that need an automated patching solution in next to no time. Given that it's cloud based, and I don't believe it sets cronjobs or triggers directly on the machines, it would not be well suited for patching and scheduling jobs for systems that are not always online.

Patch and Endpoint Management System

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Automox helps us to keep our computers and software up to date automatically. It runs in the cloud, so we can manage updates and security settings for all devices, no need to connect devices to the internal network. This saves our IT team time by automating patching for Windows, Mac, Linux, and other apps.

Pros

  • Automatically detects missing OS updates and third-party software updates.
  • Can deploy patches without user involvement.
  • Can roll back in case an update causes issues.

Cons

  • Does not support some third party applications.
  • Can not integrate with AD server.
  • need more flexibility in creating custom reports.

Likelihood to Recommend

Some of our employees are working from home at different locations. So we can use Automox to patch and secure devices without requiring a VPN or on-prem server. We have only limited IT staff in our organization. Automox can handle OS and software updates without manually checking every endpoint. It helps us to manage our IT staff workload.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Since we started using this product, patching our RHEL servers has become easy for multiple reasons. It has also helped us configure policies and run them easily across our Linux environment. Collecting stats or details from the environment and generating a report has also become easy.

Pros

  • Update or patch our RHEL env.
  • Run policies with custom scripts.
  • Configure accessible reports from the custom scripts.

Cons

  • Bit of customization in the dashboard.
  • Some level of bash script checks in the policy.
  • Test run for bash scripts without actually executing.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for Linux patching or upgrades and also for setting up custom scripts for execution across the whole environment or a specific group of servers. Then, collect the output from this execution and make a report. A single dashboard makes all of this easy and reduces our time.
