Arcserve Backup RHA and UDP Are Great Products

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use two products of Arcservce Backup: Arcservce RHA and Arcserve Backup UDP. Arcserve Backup RHA is to real-time replication backup, Arcserve Backup UDP is periodic file or object backup. We use Arcserve Backup RHA for our databases VMs replication in case of hardware/Power/Facility failures so that we have most recent data. We use Arcserve Backup UDP for VMs, files, and any other objects that need periodic backup or anything needs recovery point other than the most recent. So far they work well and meet our requirement.

Pros

  • rea-time data replication
  • VMs, files and objects backup
  • Recovery point of data restoration
  • Partition level backup

Cons

  • We use Arcserve Backup RHA for database replication, but once we switch over, database SQL server level replication stopped working.

Return on Investment

  • Solves that problem that we need data mirror and the switchover is easy.
  • For the Arcserve Backup RHA switchover may cause problems for the functions inside the database VM, for example, the SQL Server's own replication may not be working after switchover.
  • Solves the problem that any objects need periodic backup providing recovery point choice.

Arcserve - An excellent solution for backup and replication needs

Pros

  • Cost - A very affordable solution.
  • Support and Sales - Arcserve has been top notch to us with the sales process and support.
  • Replication - One of the core reasons we selected the product. We find the replication side of the software fantastic.
  • Backup - An excellent backup product that provides just great functionality and restore-ability at a granular level.

Cons

  • Has a steep learning curve to the product, if not experienced in backup solutions.
  • Windows backup and restore functionality is excellent, however, we have found Linux somewhat lacking.

Return on Investment

  • We were able to roll back up and replication into one product, which reduced the costs without having to go with multiple vendors.
  • As a result of Arcserve UDP, we were able to implement a full DR scenario test, which until that point hadn't been successful.
