Very strong fit for mid-sized organizations that need more flexibility and customization as compared to canned or template-based offerings, but also want the efficiency and externalization that comes with a pre-existing, cloud-hosted platform (as compared to a full custom offering). Works well with a PIM and more mature catalog data in order to fully leverage the dynamic data capabilities.

WooCommerce is best suited to customers whose website is built on the WordPress platform, and whose development team has a good understanding of plug-in implementation. If your website is not built on WordPress, but on Laravel or React (or any other non WordPress technology), then WooCommerce is not for you. WooCommerce is also great for customers who just need a simple online shopping experience. If your needs involve more complex or immersive features such as timed discounts, pick up locations, delivery reminders, or post shopping feedback surveys, know that you will need to purchase additional add-ons to make to get these features using WooCommerce set up on WordPress.

Pros
  • Web content management -- the interface is drag and drop and makes it very easy for business users to create product pages.
  • In site search with Episerver Find -- it is easy to promote attributes and make quick tweaks to fine-tune results.
  • Integrate with other systems -- we have integrated with our ERP, our product information management system, our digital asset management system and our marketing automation system to take advantage of investments we have already made in content and customer data.

Cons
  • Support. Episerver used to have direct support and access to the tech team to discuss and resolve issues. The new support portal is not enough for developer needs.
  • Quality Assurance. We find issues in the Episerver code that should have been resolved in QA before release.
  • Sales. Episervers sells the framework as a solution while showing Alloy. While it helps Episerver sell more, it puts the implementation partner into trouble as the client thinks they bought the solution. Episerver does not provide a solution. It provides a framework that you can build a solution on.

  • Does not provide everything out of the box, for certain features you will have to install additional plugins.
  • Their own addon plugins are costly.
  • The Order table uses wp posts meta table, For those who have good amount of orders coming in, the table will keep getting larger by time that it might hog the server.

Really want to be able to spend more time and resources on rolling out new things with Episerver but at the moment we seem to be fixing alot of issues and pain points with the way our system was setup.

Despite very rare glitches, more connected to an excessive number of plugins, that affect the speed of the site, we are extremely satisfied with the platform, the ability to import and export products, even though we just export them, as we have our proprietary system for updating inventories. We love the ease of upgrading, enhancing, innovating, and the freedom we have to do whatever we want, which is a plus, when you consider Shopify can take down your whole store as they please, if they think you aren't abiding to their TOS or their ever changing set of rules.

Usability
The job functionality is one of the strongest benefits Optimizely offers. It allows a savvy user to quickly go in to a given job, see the job history to find errors and then even take the steps of a job, copy the code and paste it back into your source to diagnose a potential issue.

WooCommerce is highly customizable, feature rich, matured, ever evolving, and regularly updated plugin for WordPress. Since it is already extremely popular, you can find online tutorials to help you get started. Even if you face a problem, you can quickly get a solution from a helpful online community. You can use most of the popular payment gateways with WooCommerce. Besides that you have a full control over your website/shop.

Fully understand what is OOTB feature of the platform before proceeding to develop. Then implement a customization of key features once you can prove they are working as OOTB to make them more user friendly and productive for the business. Eg pre order and e gift card

Stibo STEP MDM was a powerhouse. It seems we could do anything we could dream up, but we also had an in-house IT dev team to support it. The cost was the reason we went with Optimizely Commerce Connect. We did not explore HubSpot for this project.

WooCommerce is cheaper and more customizable, making it easy to create a great-looking product and a polished purchasing and checkout experience. Our BigCommerce site required significant custom coding to get the desired functionality. That said, BigCommerce has been a very stable and reliable experience, whereas our WooCommerce site has had some security and reliability issues.

Return on Investment
  • Positive: We have a usable website - better than what we had before and we are seeing a constant increase in adoption.
  • Positive: Counter associates are using the website to help customers.
  • Negative: Too much time being spent QCing previous work.

  • Being so easy to implement, I can design client websites and get their e-commerce store up and running easily.
  • Because I turn over control of site management to my client after design is finished, WooCommerce is easy for them to learn and manage themselves.
  • The customization options have allowed me to find solutions for most every business need.
