Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
My company uses Veeam Data Platform in multiple locations to backup servers. At my site, we use Veeam Data Platform to backup our Hyper-V virtual servers. This secures our data and servers from everything from an accidental file deletion to a failed server that needs to be restored. We backup to onsite disk storage systems, and it also seamlessly backs up our data to cloud storage. We used to also use it for replication, but we have stopped using that feature because of business needs changing; the feature worked great. It is a lower cost solution that does everything we need to secure our on-site business data. This is important when budget matters. It is not difficult to restore single files or folders, and it is just as simple to restore an entire server.
Pros
- Veeam Data Platform makes it easy to select virtual servers for backup. You can select the host and choose whichever single server or multiple servers to include in a backup job.
- The upgrades and updates work well. I have never had a problem after updating or upgrading Veeam Data Platform.
- Veeam Data Platform has the ability to create fail over plans for Hyper-V replicated servers.
Cons
- Veeam Data Platform has good schedules with the ability to archive, but I would love more flexibility or customization of these schedules. I think it does a good enough job making sure you can restore data in good enough intervals, I would just like more control.
- I don't have many complaints. Something simple is that when you double-click a configured job, it takes you to the info about the most recent time the job ran. I'm always expecting to be able to edit the job configuration by double-clicking. Instead I need to right-click and choose edit.
- Veeam Data Platform was already in place. It was efficient to keep using the same solution. However, I did research many other platforms and this was correctly the best fit for my site.
- Veeam Data Platform does what an IT manager needs and at an affordable rate. It makes both IT and finance happy.
I've used Unitrends most recently. I really love Unitrends and tried to switch this last time I renewed support for Veeam Data Platform; however, it was not cost effective. Unfriends would have cost 4 times as much as Veeam Data Platform. As for the others, the features of their solutions did not move me to want to change. They did not do anything that we didn't already have with Veeam Data Platform, and there was no significant cost benefit for switching.
