Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam to backup all of our virtualized machines every night, as well as replicate our virtual machines to our other locations. It's very simple to setup, and once going, doesn't have to be touched. We received an email report every night of our backups and replications, if there were any issues and if we should take a deeper look into any individual virtual machines that are having trouble backing up. In the rare case that we have to restore files or a whole virtual machine from backup, it's not only very each to get this data back, but its fast as well.
Pros
- Backups
- Replication
- Disaster Recovery
- Ease of Use
- Restoring of Data
Cons
- Easier way to coordinate or schedule jobs at one location or among multiple. For example, If I'm running a backup at one location, and I have another job going at another location where I want to replicate to the first location, some sort of feature so VMWare is aware there's a backup going and it should wait.
- Additional reports, such as monthly reports that shows how many restore points were created per VM and how many incremental points failed for a VM in a month.
- A feature that gives a better overall view of all your restore points, what jobs they belong to, their age and where the data lives.
- The cost is very reasonable and for what we've spent on Veeam yearly, it has saved us at least 20 times that amount with the amount we'd have to spent to recover from a ransomware attack or similar disaster.
- It's very easy to introduce new technicians we onboard to Veeam. With it's simple interface and ease of use, we can get a new tech accustomed to Veeam and restoring data within an hour.
- With the speed of instant recovery, we can boot up a backed up or replicated VM within minutes, greatly reducing any downtime.
Originally, our organization used to use Symantec Backup Exec which was very time consuming, confusing and cumbersome to for me and my staff to use. When taking over another company's infrastructure, they had used Carbonite to backup their physical servers. Again, the software was also cumbersome and needed constant attention as backups were constantly failing.
