Veeam Backup and Replication for Backup and Disaster Recovery
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup and Replication is being tested and used as a partial and possibly a full replacement for Commvault and Zerto. The replication component would replace Zerto by allowing us to perform replication between our primary site and our remote secondary site. backup components would be used to lower the cost of backing up our current infrastructure.
Pros
- Backup servers
- Replication of virtual servers
- Bare-metal recovery
Cons
- Implementation of CDP for VM replication
- Data continuity
- Synchronization within recovery groups
- Increased RPO in disaster recovers situations
- Decreased cost of backups
- Allowed more servers to be backed up
- Speed of backup and recovery
- Zerto and Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery
Veeam is comparable to Commvault when used as a backup and recovery solution allowing server grouping, long term retention, and tiered backup solutions. when compared to Zerto, Veeam is not as capable due to the missing continuous data replication which causes recovery points to be inconsistent and RPO's for disaster recovery to be larger.
