Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam Backup & Replication is used at our office, as well as many of clients' CO's. We typically implement Veeam to manage server infrastructure backups, as well as replication to disaster recovery sites. A typical use case would be replication between two hosts onsite, and backup to either a NAS or Tape, as well as an offsite backup. These jobs typically run nightly.

Pros

  • Replication between two hosts is perfect.
  • Backups to offsite locations on an automatic schedule with email alerts work very well.
  • Ease of use.

Cons

  • Backup to tape doesn't always work intuitively.
  • Adding the same resource to the inventory when it is already considered an active piece when managed by vSphere would be nice to have.
  • Veeam saves time with automation, and generally works well. It has been valuable restoring from backups but it has not been needed in terms of disaster.
Veeam Backup & Replication is well suited for multiple host redundancy and system wide backups. It is not well suited for single host deployments for replication, but backing up single hosts is still a good idea.
