Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It's currently being implemented to replace our existing toolset. We wanted a product that could support our current environment as well as new technologies in the cloud. After looking at several products to replace 3 separate monitoring applications we choose ScienceLogic to replace all three

Pros and Cons

Pros

Monitors network devices extremely well
Users can quickly pick up the on using the tool and find where they need to go
Dashboard creation is very simple

Cons

Administration is not straightforward. Managing different policies can be very cumbersome.
Server monitoring can be very difficult. Unix support could be greatly improved.
Self monitoring is very limited. There's no real feeling of true insight into everything that's going on within the environment.

Return on Investment

It has helped us streamline our offerings to one tool that does it all.
Implementation has been troublesome for certain specific platforms. Lack of visibility into the processes has really hurt us.

Likelihood to Recommend

It seems to be better suited for smaller environments as oppose to large ones. The user interface could be much improved with simple quality of life improvements. It has too much of a "engineering" feel to it.

Hi – Thank you for taking the time to review ScienceLogic’s SL1. We are working to completely redesign the user experience. Our goal is to provide a user experience that has more intuitive workflows and is easier to use. The first phase of this initiative was delivered earlier this year as part of our Big Ben release (April 2019). Our next Big Ben release (January 2020) will introduce even more capabilities of the ScienceLogic Agent. Our goal is to blur the lines between agent-based and agentless monitoring so that our customers can choose the method that works best for them while still having a consistent set of capabilities and user experience. It will include a beta of our new Unix agent that will monitor vital system metrics like processor, memory, file systems, network interfaces and processes. We believe true insight can be delivered using business services. Like many applications, SL1 is comprised of many components and depends on various infrastructure. Whether you run our software from hardware in your data center, virtualized on your favorite hypervisor or in you chosen cloud, we have the ability to monitor all the underlying infrastructure as well as the technologies and components that form our application. Feeding all this into a business service will provide a sense of the overall environment and allow you to drill into all the moving parts. To make this easier, we are working to deliver an initial user experience that includes a business service for the SL1 application out-of-the-box.
