Overall Satisfaction with MasterControl Quality Excellence

We used to have many (100s) of disconnected quality databases which required metrics to be created outside of these systems. We initially brought in MasterControl Quality Excellence as a solution for our outdated production records system. While performing the implementation, we found out how Mx could use the Qx platform to connect training requirements to the ability to perform tasks in Mx. As we implemented documents and training, we found out about FBS and eForms and how they could connect to documents, training, and production records. Ultimately culminating in a truly connected quality system solution. This really opened doors for us by allowing us to get metrics from a single source system which has greatly strengthened our QMS.

Pros

  • Connection between documents, forms, and even production records
  • Automatic training checks
  • Easy to customize via configuration options

Cons

  • Access to data. J Reports are hard to set up and Insights does not contain all needed data meaning outside reporting solutions are used.
  • AQEM has a lot of potential but is missing key features that are available in eForms, like data structures and connectivity which are really necessary for AQEM to be implemented.
  • Searches are not always mapped to where you are searching.
  • Struggles with large data sets - slow to load, difficult to export, etc.
  • The system has prevented audit findings related to lack of training for operators since Mx contains a training check against key work instructions prior to allowing data entry.
  • Having a single source of truth for quality system data has meant that metrics can be set across multiple locations, and we are able to compare apples to apples which has allowed us to identify sites that are struggling and improve understanding at these locations.
  • MasterControl Quality Excellence actively engages customers for input into features and improvements. I have seen implementation of several features and fixes that we requested which have made using the system easier.
If you use the system daily, the system becomes easy to use. However, for individuals who do not access the system regularly, the system is not intuitive so these users can struggle a bit locating the information they need. Some modules in Qx are dated and it shows. Certain setups are a bit clunky. However, MasterControl Quality Excellence does a good job at providing instructions on how to perform these tasks.
Hands down, MasterControl Quality Excellence worked a million times better than SmartSolve. While SmartSolve was definitely cheaper, we struggled with that system immensely and it only had documents and training for corporate functions because after implementation, it was clear that it would be a difficult solution for our old Lotus Notes based systems. MasterControl Quality Excellence has been a great solution and enabled us to retire all but one of our old Lotus Notes databases (out of hundreds).

Qx can truly provide a connected quality system, and a user can navigate seamlessly between documents, training, forms, and production records. This is all contained within a system that is validated by the vendor, making quality easy. However, reporting can be difficult, so it is necessary at this time to setup outside reporting solutions.
