Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

I work in shared services so it is used in the same accounting department covering sales in 3 locations.

Pros

  • Tax Calculation

Cons

  • Canadian Sales Tax - currently does not differentiate between CAD and USD Currency
  • Saved us thousands of dollars on our filing fees we had with a different company
The advisors don't train on a very basic level. They are expecting you to know what you are doing. In my case, I was not well versed in sales tax before setting up my filing calendars so I had some frustration in understanding what Avalara wanted me to do for setup.

The IT department worked with Avalara and all went well. They were able to provide a temporary "sandbox" to do testing with which was very helpful.
It definitely takes the painful process out of filing returns and calculating taxes by hand.
Can't remember the name but the reporting coming out of it was horrible.
They do a very good job with tax calculation for the manufacturing environment with exception to currency differences for Canada.
