VPN client like a networking tool

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zscaler Private Access for remote access. One of the main problem is precious tool was instability, it broken down quite often. The User Interface wasn't too intuitive and needed a bit of time to get used to. Our primary use case is to allow users work remotely. Zscaler Private Access solved all the problems listed above.

Pros

  • Fast Authentication
  • Ability to authenticate early
  • Provides inbuilt capture

Cons

  • Packet capture live view
  • Warning before expiring

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Private Access is really great improvement over other private access tools. One of the scenarios where it excels is troubleshooting. In initial days we had issues accessing certain hosts and the in built packet capture came in very handy. All we had to do was start the capture do our test and it would save the file which can then be downloaded and opened on PC.

Lateral Movement Prevention - The main security benefit

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) is used for securely accessing Internal Application. From both onprem and cloud. With ZPA its possible to access application without giving visibility to any other network or even same network. Helped in segmentation, users can access from anywhere with Security and Reliability. The Zscaler zero trust cloud exchange hiding internal application behind its cloud exchange which gives confidence for being protected.

Pros

  • Securing Access to Internal Applications
  • Segmentation for Applications
  • Strict enforcement policy implementations

Cons

  • Granularity and Complexity of Policy Enforcement
  • Application Segmentation and Listener Configuration - The way applications are defined and listened for is fundamental to ZPA, but can be a source of frustration, especially when dealing with legacy or non-HTTP protocols
  • The ZCC is the user's primary gateway, but its control over local system network behavior can sometimes clash with enterprise requirements.

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Private Access- ZPA solution designed to securely connect authorized users to specific private applications, without ever placing the user on the network where the application resides ZIA- User can connect from anywhere without worrying about security concern. Whole traffic forwarded to Zscaler Exchange and then it goes on internet. All the security inspections are performed at ZE.

Zscaler Private Access

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zscaler Private Access for replacing 3 of our legacy VPN applications from the different mergers and aquisitions we have done. We needed a solution that could handle the growth for over 65,000+ employees that our other solutions could not handle.

Pros

  • easier way to keep employees connected while remote
  • better way to secure our data with browser isolation
  • easy way to route traffic back on site that's needed.

Cons

  • VOiP needs major improvements. that is where its lacking.
  • Also Public service edge Datacenters need to be built in the middle of the US to handle more business - Denver is the only location. I feel one is SLC, UT would be a good location.

Likelihood to Recommend

For our remote employees it is great to use as they do not have to authenticate every time they lock their computer or turn it off for the night. Its easy to just turn on and as its booting up getting logged into Zscaler Private Access.

Zscaler Private Access Review

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for both users on site and off site as a way to reach the internal applications of our environment. The tool provides some microsegmentation and also grants us insight into what and when users are connecting to applications. It also provides a consistent user experience that is based upon user roles rather than that of IP.

Pros

  • Microsegmentation
  • Scalability
  • Simplicity

Cons

  • Would prefer to do L7 filtering instead of L4
  • Would love to have a global find (how does this App Segment tie in everywhere)
  • Sometimes error messages don't really provide much information
  • PCAPs are the second step when traditionally that was the ace in the hole.

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Private Access works really well in environments setup for FQDNs and where you know what users should/shouldn't be accessing on what ports. You can use Zscaler Private Access to figure out these kinds of features but that doesn't always mean you'll be correct. It also provides a consistent experience for users as they can access their materials anywhere. It also makes the user the last line of defense. If a user's account is compromised then the attacker has access to everything they already did. It doesn't work great in OT environments or Server based environments. Flows have to be initiated from the client and not the server for stuff to behave properly.

Zscaler Private Access is fast secure and reliable

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zscaler Private Access to create a secure connection for our contingent worker who do not use a corporate issued device. Zscaler Private Access isn't a VPN but it replaced our VPN solution at the time and has been fast, secure (zero-trust), and reliable. Now user whether they are in Mexico, India, or the US, can verify their identity through MFA and log into our corporate network and only access the items they need to access.

Pros

  • Zero Trust Methodology
  • Logging/analytics
  • Ease of application onboarding

Cons

  • Dashboard Metrics, if people stay logged in then that counts as them being online.
  • SCIM Access should be something that is explicitly stated
  • Copying application segments but the ports don't transfer over.

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) has come in handy when we want to protect our network from users we don't have MDM access to. We can also restrict what kind of applications/services they can connect to (allow with access control rules internally). Additionally the support we receive from the engineers has always been great.

ZPA Review.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The software is solid, and we are seeing security features that other applications do not provide. The learning curve for us has been adapting from policy-based firewall access to application-based connections. The team has grown on it, but continues to work on doing a solid deployment. We have one-offs that require additional resources to function properly, such as Cisco voice applications.

Pros

  • Application security.
  • Access Security.
  • ZTNA
  • Identification.

Cons

  • More subcategories for access.
  • Custom made feasibility to take care of one offs.
  • Easier to use GUI.

Likelihood to Recommend

The tool is, for the most part, very intuitive. Most of our issues so far (working through them with our Resident Engineer) are the one-off applications. We are working on some exemptions to make them functional. Besides that, the team loves the tool and how it can provide better security than our previous tool.

Zscaler for the win

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Zscaler to provide access to internal resources and to source our IP address, when needed, for legacy sites (SIPA). We replaced a VPN platform that was getting almost weekly security advisories.

Pros

  • Enables zero trust access to internal resources
  • Provides always-on connectivity.
  • Makes client upgrades a breeze.

Cons

  • Works well
  • I can't
  • think of anything

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for associate access and less suited for third party access. However, there are other methods for third party access.
