DLP

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use DLP for inline web, and some CASB - we had DLP but when we switched to Zscaler proxy we had to switch to Zscaler Data Protection

Pros

  • it does work well in finding leakage
  • setting up CASB was easy

Cons

  • the GUI needs to be more user friendly
  • one screen for all policies and we pick what we want to do
  • can we personalize emails sent
  • need to pick to delete incidents when not needed

Likelihood to Recommend

it works, but the GUI can get much better

Zscaler Data Protection

Rating: 5 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Web DLP, starting to deploy endpoint and email

Pros

  • Platform of security capabilities
  • Customer feedback responsiveness
  • Quick innovations

Cons

  • UX design
  • Building advanced DLP that goes beyond Regex, EDM, IDM, etc
  • Telling the story of an incident rather than just detailing out a disconnected list of events.

Likelihood to Recommend

Less well suited as a full stack DLP replacement today, but nearly there.

Zscaler Data Protection Loss Prevention

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The dictionaries don't always work.

Pros

  • If the policy is set correctly, it identifies DLP (Data Loss Prevention).
  • Scanning zip files to find executables works really well.

Cons

  • In the dictionaries, it doesn't always capture the block. It lets data through.
  • Leveraging copilot by looking at the policies that might not being hit.

Likelihood to Recommend

Scanning zip files are really reliable.
The DLP dictionaries could use some work.

Zscaler Private Access and Data Protection

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

INVISTA uses Zscaler Data Protection to grant access to specific applications where our critical data is housed. The business case is around ensuring that our intellectual property is protected in all forms and in all applications.

Pros

  • Remote Access
  • User specific access to data within applications via policy
  • INVISTA also hopes to leverage this to do microsegmentation

Cons

  • tenant to tenant connectivity
  • devices that are shared and may not always be tied to a single / specific user
  • play well or better with other app management tools like Intune

Likelihood to Recommend

Zscaler Data protection / Zscaler private access is great for remote worker scenarios where people will be running from, untrusted networks. Data protection is also very valuable for applications where we want to limit by identity those individuals that should even have access to the application.

Zscaler Data Protection a future approach to data security.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize this for DLP and to manage our data security posture. It provides a unified, single-pane DLP experience across our organization, making DLP policy management convenient. The tool is potent and offers many features. The future direction is also auspicious, as Zscaler moves away from legacy regex-based detection to leveraging large language models (LLMs) for more accurate, context-based detections.

Pros

  • DLP visibility, management, and response.
  • Visibility and Management of internal sensitive and/or dark data.
  • Automation workflow.

Cons

  • The DLP dictionary functions need to be expanded upon, such as matching all regex patterns with any phrases and vice versa. The only way to do this today is to create two dictionaries and then use an engine to combine them; however, this approach loses the ability to utilize proximity.
  • Regex does not support lookaheads.

Likelihood to Recommend

For a large company with lots of data it is a fantastic solution and much needed. This is probably not suited for very small organizations as it might be overkill. Organizations with lots of sensitive data such as PII, federal agencies or health care will greatly benefit from this product.

DLP Consultant Believes Zscaler DLP is on top of all competition.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Zscaler to protect indexed and categorized apps through multiple protection channels—in-line, CASB, and Endpoint. I also utilize ZWA work workflow automation for DLP alerts.

Pros

  • Single Set of Dictionaries.
  • Easy Endpoint Deployment.
  • Single Console for DLP.

Cons

  • In my opinion, ZWA UI is UGLY.
  • Ability to check for watermarks.
  • Ability to use NOT rules (Anything that does NOT match this DLP Dictionary).

Likelihood to Recommend

Data protection is well-suited when the client is already utilizing ZIA and has CASB solutions set up, and is a more greenfield environment. It is challenging when coming from legacy DLP products with auditing requirements in place.

we use both the inline/web DLP and the endpoint DLP solutions. Our primary used case is to protect data classification tag protection.

Pros

  • Integration of DLP rules with ZIA

  • They need more apps support for endpoint DLP

Very well integrated across Zscaler Internet Access(ZIA) and other Zscaler platforms
