What is Webroot Advanced Email Encryption powered by Zix?

Webroot Advanced Email Encryption powered by Zix (replacing the former Zix Email Encryption, formerly ZixEncrypt) provides automatic email encryption and data loss prevention solution. It scans the content of outbound email and automatically encrypts or takes action based on user-defined policies, for any email environment to secure any mailbox beyond its native capabilities.

Good encryption but high minimum number of licenses

Pros

  • Seamless encryption among other Zix users
  • Encrypted email portal for non-Zix email recipients
  • Keyword filters for autoencryption

Cons

  • We are a small company. I would request that Zix create smaller licensing packages. I am unhappy that we have to buy in packs of 10 when we only need five. If a competing solution becomes available with better pricing, then I will consider leaving Zix to avoid paying for licenses I do not need.

Return on Investment

  • Peace of mind
  • HIPAA compliance

Other Software Used

Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), Axway AMPLIFY Syncplicity, Microsoft Office 2016 (discontinued)

Usability

Zix Email Encryption - simple, quick, and easy to use.

Pros

  • Email Encryption - The implementation was simple and using the encryption is even easier.

Cons

  • We only use the email encryption and it does everything that we need it to do.

Return on Investment

  • Having Zix email encryption has given us another way to securely share PHI with our patients.

Alternatives Considered

Barracuda Web Security Gateway, McAfee Email Gateway (Discontinued), Virtru and Cisco Email Security

Usability

Good email encryption, though nothing stands out above other similar products on the market

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We implemented a trial of Webroot to send encrypted email while evaluating multiple products for the same solution and after an evaluation, we decided to continue with our current providers which are Biscom, Mimecast, and Egress - the end-users can send an encrypted communication through Biscom or Mimecast Secure Messaging and our users that tried Zix/Webroot preferred Biscom or Mimecast as they offered better ease of use (though the IT Team did prefer Webroot)

Pros

  • guaranteed encrypted delivery
  • DLP / email security
  • allows attachments larger than standard Office365 setup

Cons

  • the UI was not as intuitive as our end-users would prefer
  • slow for a cloud based solution

Return on Investment

  • n/a, we only rolled it out in trial

Alternatives Considered

Mimecast Integrated Cloud Email Security and Mimecast Advanced Email Security

Other Software Used

Mimecast Advanced Email Security, Mimecast Awareness Training, KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training

Webroot is simple.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is an overall pretty good product, just like the rest of the products Webroot offers. Use once in a while for sending emails but primarily set it up for clients to use, especially for the ones that need encryption when they send emails with confidential information. It is mainly used by clients that need it for HIPPA compliance.

Pros

  • Easy to use.
  • Nice interface.
  • No major issues.

Cons

  • Support could be better.

Return on Investment

  • Better security for emails.
