Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Watchguard has been great for our organization's network infrastructure. We utilize their products for firewall, AP, and even endpoint antivirus. The equipment has been reliable, and the software is intuitive and fully featured.

Our network infrastructure group likes it, and as a member of support, it's easy to use.

End users have a positive experience with the VPN product, and the antivirus product is fairly reliable.

Pros

  • Feature Updates
  • Integration is Easy
  • Good Web UI

Cons

  • Better EPDR stability
  • Easier customization for end-user experience
  • More robust SAML integration

Likelihood to Recommend

I've been impressed to consider how many Watchguard Network products we utilize. Firewall/VPN, Wireless APs, and endpoint antivirus.

It makes it easy to diagnose issues and find resolutions with minimal interactions with the end user or their system. Reliability of the network hardware has been superb, and we have minimal issues with their software.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use a variety of WatchGuard tools to ensure network security in our organization and the networks of our clients. While the clients can range from 5 employees to a few hundred, WatchGuard has the tools we need. We use it for secure remote access, traffic filtering, and compliance purposes.

Pros

  • Provides comprehensive logs
  • Detailed security options
  • high visibility

Cons

  • The cloud management, while it is improving, is still rather clunky and obtrusive
  • The wireless access points do not provide as much functionality

Likelihood to Recommend

I believe WatchGuard would be excellent for most scenarios, perhaps it would become less well suited in extremely large environments

Watchguard in Practice

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Watchguard Network Security for SSL VPN to access remote servers/resources across the country, as well as for network filtering and firewall capabilities. Watchguard Network Security enables us to secure our network from bad actors while ensuring staff are working without distraction, while simultaneously allowing remote staff to operate in the same capacity as their colleagues nationwide.

Pros

  • SSL VPN
  • Web Filtering
  • Threat mitigation

Cons

  • Documentation for firewall utilities
  • Firebox portal web ui is a bit hard to navigate at time

Likelihood to Recommend

I'd recommend Watchguard Network Security in a scenario in which a satellite office or remote branch requires access into something like head offices file server, in which case I'd suggest the installation of some Watchguard appliances in both location alongside setup of a vpn tunnel.

I'd also recommend Watchguard Network Security in the situation where staff are accessing non-work related resources in the office, in which case I'd suggest the installation of a firewall and configuring of web filtering.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WatchGuard Network Security has been a beneficial tool in our toolset to offer clients the network security they need. It is easy to manage and configure and has great compatibility with other products. It offers many in-depth features that allow to configure the appliance to meet the business needs. Highly recommended!

Pros

  • Active Directory Integration
  • Site-to-Site VPN
  • Alerting

Cons

  • Device configuration
  • Statistics and monitoring
  • GUI Intuitiveness

Likelihood to Recommend

WatchGuard Network Security is probably appropriate in a middle-sized businesses. It allows for great flexibility and customization without sacrificing the ease of use. It probably lacks most of the features an enterprise customer would require, such as various in depth routing features. For a smaller customer, it might be needlessly complex and harder to get started with.

WatchGuard Network Security review

Rating: 6 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WatchGuard Network Security to manage our firewall, vpn tunnels, and to manage our network policies. We used to use it for all company devices, however, WatchGuard Network Security unfortunately is no longer compatible with MacOS and we have to use 3rd party alternatives for VPN on Mac. This has posed as an inconvenience for our onboarding and app installation processes.

Pros

  • Easy to navigate UI
  • Smooth integration with Active Directory users
  • Advanced configuration settings for customized security

Cons

  • Compatability
  • having to install a few times because the application is corrupted/has to be repaired
  • Better error messages when end users have connectivity issues

Likelihood to Recommend

WatchGuard Network Security is well suited for an enterprise that is windows based. It is not suitable for enterprises using a lot of MacOS devices. Having a vpn app for mobile phones would be a great addition for easy access on company issued mobile devices. But otherwise it is a good encrypted vpn vs other third parties like tunnelblic or Openvpn
