Wasp Inventory an ideal utility for small and mid-sized businesses or those just learning to inventory

Rating: 6 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The Wasp Inventory system has been integrated into my company’s operations by fulfilling the need for organizing all equipment and raw and processed materials at our manufacturing facilities. Wasp [Inventory] has given us the ability to better organize and track what was once done entirely on Excel spreadsheets. In addition, because of our unique means of processing finished goods through our supply-chain process, we use Wasp [Inventory] at all points of contact from delivery at our facility, until it is delivered at it’s final destination.

Pros

  • Inventory Tracking
  • Product Costing
  • User Management

Cons

  • Supply-Chain Functionality
  • Cost Management
  • Communication

Likelihood to Recommend

The Wasp Inventory system is best designed for the small to mod-sized business that is looking to create an inventory system that goes beyond the utilization of paper or Excel options for managing product. Wasp [Inventory] provides an entry-level approach to inventory tracking that is ideal for those who are not looking for an in-depth system that can be utilized for your supply-chain needs. In the case of Wasp [Inventory] it is a very compelling choice for those who are new to inventory and looking to begin the inventory process.

Wasp is an easy to use, incredibly effective inventory system

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Wasp to track inventory of hard drives and client evidence. It allows us to track the location of hard drives, and what data is on what. It is also very useful in tracking billing. We provide hard drives that client data is copied onto, so it provides an easy location to see what was used for what.

Pros

  • Reporting
  • Ease of use
  • Searching

Cons

  • Better communication during updates.
  • I don't really have any other issues.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for many situations. If you have a need to track a large inventory, it provides functionality, great searching and great reporting. It is very easy to use and customize. If you have a small inventory of items, it may be overkill to use Wasp as you won't get full advantage of a lot of the features.

Used primarily by the operations and internal IT of business school. Utilized for transactional data, warranty verification (purchase dates), tracking via asset tags and serial numbers. Aids in life cycle management of devices and peripherals not only from a support standpoint but allows streamlining with surplus processes.

Pros

  • Transactional/Historical Data
  • Inventory Tracking/Tagging

Utilizing Wasp for intake of equipment for invoicing.

Life cycle management for computers, devices and peripherals. Allows us to know when a replacement is coming due or is overdue.
Updating of equipment relocations, such as office changes, personnel changes or surplus.
Filtering data to run reports.

Wasp Inventory On-Prem Ver 7.0 Is Rock Solid!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently have Wasp Inventory installed on a Windows Server 2019 VM. We utilize this product to store all of our technology and other large-expense purchases. We store all data necessary (Purchase Order Number, Purchase Date, Serial Numbers, internal hardware specs, whom it's assigned to, what building and classroom number it's located, etc). We also have a Wasp 305c barcode printer which allows us to print barcode stickers which can be placed on each item - along with the device name. This makes identifying specific devices MUCH easier for my team when looking for a specific Chromebook or laptop - without having to turn the device on.

Pros

  • Duplicating Previous machine/device info - so importing dozens or hundreds of the same item is very simplistic!
  • My on-premise install utilizes a Microsoft SQL database which can be easily backed up or moved to another machine - should the need arise.
  • At the time, it was a one-time cost. Which was extremely affordable for our smaller district to purchase
  • Wasp technical support is always very helpful, and is located within the United States. So speaking to someone on the phone isn't a chore.

Cons

  • We were looking at upgrading our version (we're currently running on-Premise Ver 7.0) - but they have now moved to a yearly recurring licensing model. The cost is about $3500/year for cloud-based Wasp Inventory - whereas our Version 7.0 was a one-time purchase. They also offer an on-premises version that costs about $6500 - and then a yearly 10% recurring charge on whatever the current cost of the software is being sold for. Neither options are appealing to our district whatsoever, so we will be staying with the version we have for the foreseeable future
  • Their online form to request product information for purchase doesn't seem to be well-maintained. I reached out three times over the course of three or four weeks before I finally got a response. And that was just that my information had been sent to a local reseller of their products. We used to be able to purchase directly from Wasp, but that appears to not be an option any longer.

Likelihood to Recommend

Now that they have changed to a yearly subscription-based model, the cost to purchase Wasp Inventory software is much more expensive. So, I would have to say you'd need to be a mid-sized school or business to find the cost offset by the usability and functionality of the software. If budgetary issues aren't a concern - then this would be a perfect solution to anyone looking for a full suite for Inventory Control.
