Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have been using vROPS for about 6 yrs now. We use this product to help us get a better insight into our virtual environment's health and performance. The product has a plethora of other product packs you can install to help manage or just get information on other devices, appliances, or products within your environment. We use vROPS primarily with our virtual infrastructure and it provides up meaning full alerts for ussies not seen by our end users. The depth and detail of the metrics I am able to pull from our virtual environment allow us to pinpoint the issues quicker than many other products I have used. With this product, I can easily develop a dashboard specific to projects and applications to allow app managers and contractors to view their specific environment and all the related resources. The product runs on its own vAPP, with its own database structure which is nice so that there is no degrading underlying Microsoft OS to deal with or link to an already overburdened SQL DB. The most recent upgrade of vROPs has cleaned up a lot of clutter and streamlined the menu interface. This product is extremely helpful in troubleshooting our day-to-day issues and I know we are only using but a fraction of its capabilities. vROPs also allow you to perform forecasting and hypothetical environment changes to provide you with impact statistics which are helpful in a resource tight environment.

Return on Investment

  • I would not have a job without this product. It helps me become the data superstar in my organization
  • The only neg is that people think I can solve all their problems with vROPs. We do not have hooks into every application so we can only provide the insight we know about
  • The application is a storage hog, but if you want those metrics for that length of time then prepare to eat some disk space.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vmware vRealize log to manage, analyze, monitor, and administer system logs. It helps us in the monitoring of application logs, network traces, configure files, messages, and performance data and can be monitored on the UI.

Pros

  • It is used for log collection and analysis the virtual applications. Admins collect, view, manage and analyze system logs.
  • It provides real-time monitoring of application logs, network traces, config files, notification alerts, etc.
  • Provide the ability to manage infra, which helps in identifying and troubleshooting virtual applications.
  • The new features like proxy less event forwarding to vRealize log insight cloud are quite useful.

Cons

  • If we can integrate it with other products, then it will be quite useful. Integration with some network devices and storage devices would be useful.
  • It basically supports the system with big-size VM disks; it should be made available to support other devices and hardware as well.
  • They may also need to improve on complex configuration.

  • It is quite useful application to monitor system logs.
  • It provides real-time monitoring of application logs, network traces, config files, and event messages.
  • It has a useful UI and customizable dashboard.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

vRealize Operations is becoming very helpful in our day-to-day activities. It offers so many features like dashboards, reports, views, troubleshooting workbenches. The major business problems it addresses are, centralized management can be done easily, optimizing infrastructure or cluster, fetching reports as per the available metrics, easier to troubleshoot a VM or ESXi using timestamping.

  • Troubleshooting Workbench to work on multiple data at one place.
  • Datacenter Resources/ Cost Optimization Suggestions.
  • Centralized Management between on-premises and cloud resources.
  • Customized management packs.

Cons

  • Bit tricky in terms of policy objects.
  • Virtual machine adaptor has some limited metrics available.

  • It supports third party management packs like Blue Medora.
  • Troubleshooting workbench for fixing issues.

Return on Investment

  • We switched from a different product to vRealize Operations.
  • Monitoring/alerts are now much easier to handle.

Pros

  • Shows us where we can save on cost of keeping machines running, or boosting resources on VM's
  • the ability to plan deployments with scenario plans that can be customized over a specific timeline
  • reports that can be sent and shared with different teams or departments

Cons

  • Its a complex software that is gathering info daily, sometimes determining how to get the info you want can be troublesome that requires the help from VMware to get setup.
  • A better search function to allow users to pull info instead of going through predetermine dashboards

  • We believe that the ability to preplan deployments with vRealize has proven its return on investments.
  • Our troubleshooting time has been reduced with vrealize because its constantly collecting performance data. typically vrealize will tell us cause of fault before we can determine it ourselves.
